There are OBD2 options out there. Zero installation time.
The 100.00 one took me 20 min to put in behind the dash. Works flawlessly and doesn't have something to knock with your knee every time you get in.

While I would wait, I did buy a 1999 Silverado; 1st year of the new style. I could have bought a new truck with the out of warranty repair costs, however, the 5.3 non-afm and 4 speed trans were solid for 150,000 miles. Costs were mainly suspension and electrical.

With newer models being largely "computers on wheels" I would be prepared for attention to that area, my 2025 has been glitchy but reliable in that area, fingers crossed, software seems to be a constant chase for manufacturers these days. Many manufacturers have mechanical misses these days, even on established brands and multi-year platforms, due in part to the ongoing pursuit of cost reduction. Audi RS6 Avant alternators, GM 6.2/3.0 engine bearings, newer Toyota 6 cylinder truck engine failures, and GM/Ford 10 speed throttle bodies come to top of mind, there are other examples. Given repair costs these days warranties are very important for the buyer.

You climb into your vehicle on your knees or something? I’m 6’3” and I’ve never even come remotely close to knocking it out lol. In fact it’s next to impossible. You’re making it sound like it sticks out like a sore thumb which I can assure you it doesn’t.

Lastly, the behind the dash option is only for disabling stop start. It doesn’t turn off AFM/DFM. This does both.

The Carbyte is a great way to get full time V8 along with disabling auto stop.
Plug in and like the post above it is out of the way and the only way to get to it is to reach under the dash.
It doesn’t come close to the knees.
Very inexpensive too.
Works plug and play in my 2024 Tahoe.

I have this one:

Looking at the website it says MY 2022.5+ you can’t use the one they sell that plugs into the OBD.

So you’re saying there are ones that just plug into the OBD below the dash?

lol, why did I get the range then it’s a PITA to R&R.

The Range one came out before the Carbyte was available. I was tempted but didn’t want to deal with the hassle of R&R when it came to dealership trips. Glad I waited.

Also, I think you misread about the years of compatibility, at least for the SUV’s.

Unleash the full power of your GM V8 engine with the Range Technology DFM Module, engineered specifically for 2021–2026 GM SUVs and 2022.5–2026 GM 1500 trucks.

Carbyte. I paid $150, so I was a bit off on it being $100. But that extra $50 is well worth the convenience.

Didn’t know they made that. I did look at the vehicle compatibility on the Amazon link though it says it only works up to a 2024 Tahoe. Looks like the refresh Tahoe (2025+) is still not supported with this carbyte unit…..

The range unit explicitly states it works for a 2026.

So I guess for my truck I still only had the range option unfortunately.

Well, mine's a diesel and looking at that advertisement every time I get in doesn't do a thing for me. Happy Motoring.....

GM is already releasing pickups with 5.3 engines without AFM/DFM using engine VIN code "E". Have only seen it from two guys who just bought trucks, not in any publications as of last week.

So having said that, you might do a wait and see unless a really good deal happens your way.
Hello, which digit of the VIN has the engine code?

If I were in your situation I would wait to see if the 27 model year has the new engines, then wait if they do.
Being on my third Yukon XL, swore up and down I would replace it with another XL. I am starting to lean towards a Sub for several reasons.
Chevy is much better at letting you pick and choose certain options, for instance the trailer/tow package. With the Yukon you have to get either Super Cruise or the Elevation Max package, can't order just a stand alone tow package.

I don't want those stupid rear entertainment screens hanging out in the middle of nowhere, and with the Yukon they come with the Max package.
I don't really care about Super Cruise, for my habits it's not worth the added $$$
I want a sunroof, with the Yukon, again it's not a stand alone option.
I can buy a heavily optioned LT for around $8k less than an Elevation with stuff I don't really need or want.
Not a huge fan of that big screen either. I may be a bit impartial to the Chevy screen though, the daughters 25 Equinox has a very similar layout, but to me the screen just flows better. I realize this is personal.
One top to this, I have a dealer right here in town and one 10 miles away.
The nearest GMC dealer is 30 miles away, if I would need warranty work.

Why does GMC do this?
I love the looks of the Yukon, and I like the looks of the Suburban.
1st world problems, I get it. Just irks me a little that GMC isn't more ala cart with options choices.
I'm sure they have thier reasons $$$

You can’t combine a suburban high country 3.0 diesel with super cruise. Both the sub and the Yukon seem to have weird option configs.

Yes, what ever they did from the 2024 on is a pretty big difference in compatibility.

For some components there is different part number for 2021-2024 and 2025

One thing about the Carbyte... it does need to be updated... i installed mine in February 2025... and there were seven new updates... you do these with an iphone after logging into the carbyte on wifi.

it is a great function to keep it from stopping at lights.. and keeping 10 gear.. and eliminating the AFM even in deceleration.. which using 9 gear does not do.
