    2010 Burb Misfire

PS I was after stock performance, kept VVT when deleting AFM. Used all OEM parts with a few select exceptions for the rebuild. If you have high miles, I recommend a valve job while you have the heads off - new seals, lapped valves, other parts as your machine shop recommends. Replace...

    2010 Burb Misfire

All comments and recs below are for the 5. 3 you have (LMG, LC9, etc). Agree, GM (or Delphi) lifters and trays only, no generics! Lifters p/n 12499225 for a set of 16, about $400. Trays 12595365, need 4 total. Summit, Scoggin-Dickey, Brian Tooley and Texas Speed are legit sources, many others...

    2010 Burb Misfire

Great response, J91! Do you know a source for the bushing to put under the oil pressure sensor? Also, I'm not quite following you on which gasket(s) to slot. I assume you pull the VLOM. Is the gasket directly on the solenoid (under it as installed, over if you pull the VLOM and flip it...

Does my 2011 have a PVC valve

Accidentally posted before finishing. The TSB gives you the scoop on the valve cover/PCV situation. If you have the old design and are experiencing problems, then replace the valve cover. If no problems, I still wouldn't worry about it.

Does my 2011 have a PVC valve

Technical Service Bulletin 10-06-01-008F Well, I went back and looked it up. The breakpoint for "bad" valve covers is Feb 1, 2011, so you may not be safe. It's explained in Technical Service Bulletin

Does my 2011 have a PVC valve

Not sure what engine you have, but the 5.3s in that era have the PCV valve built into the driver's side valve cover. AFAIK, you have to replace the whole valve cover if it fails. I wouldn't worry about it unless you have a problem (oil consumption, bad performance, etc.) There was a redesign or...

    Lifters noise

Since you're going back for surgery - I read on another forum that the VLOM can definitely be the source of oil pressure problems. You have to remove it to get to the lifters anyway, so replacing it with a plain valley cover is worthwhile. The usual valley cover is GM 12598832 - includes gaskets...

    Buying My First Tahoe/Yukon

Welcome, Alex! I am a newbie, too, and appreciate the great community here as well as the chance to share what I have learned. I used to have a GMT800 2001 Tahoe. It got totaled, and I miss it still. They are great trucks. I would always favor a vehicle that has been babied and impeccably...

    Lifters noise

Others can do better at specific diagnosis, here are a few general thoughts. Lifter quality is absolutely critical - GM or Delphi, or specific aftermarket brands recommended by others. It's not a place to cut corners, same with trays. I just bought a set of the GM lifters (12499225), and it...

5.3 DoD Delete Stock Replacement Cam -- What's the Verdict

Yes, by full advance, I meant zero, but zero is precise! Like the description of how it works.

5.3 DoD Delete Stock Replacement Cam -- What's the Verdict

Thanks, Swathdiver, that is right. The valve reliefs drop the ratio from 9.9 to 9.6. It's about 3 cc per piston. The VVT cams definitely have longer exhaust duration, I guess its so she can breathe easier when the cam gets retarded. As I understand the VVT, is parked at full advance, and the...

5.3 DoD Delete Stock Replacement Cam -- What's the Verdict

Dustin, Thanks! I should have included the L33 on the popular choices list. It's a 3-bolt cam, though, so not compatible with VVT. I'd like to keep VVT. The L33 cam would be good for my other ride (08 Sierra LY5), which I expect to undergo a DOD delete at some point. DOD has been trouble-free...

5.3 DoD Delete Stock Replacement Cam -- What's the Verdict

Hi Y’All, Newbie here, looking to benefit from your collective wisdom and experience. I have a 2013 Tahoe (5.3 LMG) that dropped a DoD lifter, so I’m looking at DoD delete with VVT retained. The Tahoe’s a daily driver, with occasional light towing, and all I’m looking for is stock performance...
