Ok so this is a noob questions. First off my set up...Alpine ine-w940 to PDR-F50 for door speakers (spa-610c front and rear) and MRX-M100 for subs (Type S 15 x2 in a ported box). I purchased a SMD dd-1 and discovered that my head unit is "defective" since the distortion led is always on.
I am not clipping at the head unit, the pre outs are all 2v (front, rear and subwoofer) at the amp they measure 1.605v with a 40Hz tone and .906v with a 1Khz tone (PDR-F50) and .291v with 40Hz and .281v with 1Khz tone (MRX-M110).
I am not overpowering door speakers or subs (used the RMSxIMPEDANCE and then Square root that to get the output voltage on the amp channels).
<- Explanation.
My question is will this "Distortion" that the DD-1 is detecting cause any damage? or will it only effect sound quality?
