Very nice write up. May be a bit overkill. I just replaced my friends shift boot. One drop of WD-40 and it slid right over the shift knob. It also helped being a warm day.
Really? I got turned off after reading the "how to" above. If its that simple, I;m going to do it.
Absolutely. I've done a few this way. When you do, you may want clean the shift linkage with some compressed air. Dirt and rubber bits can build up from the old torn boot.
My replacement came today in the mail. Will be trying it over the weekend. Looks like I might have to remove the steering column plastic cowl to get the base in without messing it up.
Trust me, I tried to slide the new boot over the shifter several times. I tried by putting a small amount of WD40 on the shifter and heated the boot...no dice. In fact it caused a small tear so I stopped. It did expand considerably but just not enough to get over the shifter end.Very nice write up. May be a bit overkill. Where did you guys get the Shifter from? curious cause now my tow haul mode isn't working might be the wire getting crimped
