I have an 08' Yukon with the 5.3L. Within the last 6 months or so my truck has begun to act as if the motor doesn't want to fire when the starter turns over. It usually always does crank but sometimes the starter has to turn for a good while before the motor cranks. Other times the starter barely turns and the motor bogs down and barely cranks. Once it's running it runs perfectly so I don't think it's an issue with plugs/wires/coils. I replaced the starter but wound up wasting my money when it didn't fix the problem. I've heard of others having similar issues but has anyone definitively found what the problem is? It's more annoying than anything else. Never used to do it.

Sounds fuel related, especially if there is no SES light. Try changing your fuel filter...if that doesn't help your pump may be failing but, ideally, you'll want to do a fuel pressure check.

I had it in my head to start simple with the filter. I'll change it and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll have to take it to my mechanic. I've had the electrical system tested and everything checks out. Battery is strong and holding voltage. Thanks,

If the starter is turning over freely, as he stated, it's not a battery issue.

Is going out would be the better way to put it. If it was done totally it wouldn't start...
Every once in a while it will do that. Other times the starter turns over for a split second and the motor barely catches. It eventually idles up and runs normal within a few seconds.

Definitely sounds like a possible amperage problem with your battery.

Back to this again....The starting issue only occurs in warmer weather, especially when the motor is warm. If I give it a little gas it cranks somewhat normally. Otherwise, it turns over and over and doesn't catch for a while. I've replaced the battery and the starter so I know it isn't that. I guess I'm confused as to why it would be a fuel pump going bad if it runs perfect once started. I've read of a similar issue with a nbs Tahoe where the guy had to replace a coolant sensor that was causing startup issues? Can anyone help?

Without a gauge, you're guessing on the problem. One quick, although not complete test is to:
1. turn the key to on, but not start. Wait about 5 seconds.
2. turn key off.
3. turn key on, but not start. Wait 5 seconds.
3. turn key off.
4. Try to start truck.
If it starts, I'd bet it's a bad pump or clogged filter. But again, for a better verification, get a fuel pressure gauge and see what kind of start pressure you have.

Let me know what you find out. Mine has also done this for no reason. Also, I always have to pay a "diagnostic fee" at the dealer to get it looked at.
