Reputable company: check
Proper heatsink design: check
Usable lumens: check
PnP: check

Here you go kiddos, what seems to be the first PnP led bulb with enough usable light to be a functional fog light and with enough heatsinking not to melt itself and everything around it. Available in 5202 amber or white: http://mtqinc.com/nokyausa/led_access/ledbulb/ledbulb.php

Not cheap apparently, a quick PN search came back with a site selling them for $130 a pair, also a few sets on ebay.

I haven't used them so not liable if they don't work as described, and I certainly wouldn't use them for critical lighting like low/high beam, but at least they should provide the best light those small fog housings allow for. Heat dissipation would still be a concern to me, but we won't know till someone tries it. :)

On a side note, these will also fit the Escalade DRL function.

However I'd strongly recommend against running those for hours on end in those expensive headlamp housings before we really know what impact that amount of heat has on surrounding material. Also Escalade DRLs are capped so they would lose much of their advantage as the led is forward facing.

Would these be very effective in a projector fog housing? I'll be the guinea pig if they would work just as good in a projector.

What projector fog housing are we talking about and what base socket does it have?

I mean it's a forward facing led so I see no reason why it shouldn't work the same way with or without a projector ... although it must be noted that depending on the quality and type of projector, heat dissipation might be an issue. Hence why I ask what type of projector.

I know those projectors very well, i used to have a pair to retrofit at some point. They're metal so you should be fine heat wise. I also think these bulbs are perfect for this application.

You mean the blue coated halogen bulbs?

Blue coating does result in a whiter light, it does however rob you of lumens. The darker the coating to achiever a whiter light the less light will get though. Not to a dangerous degree, just slightly less light.

i dont think my Silverstars were blue coated? And they were a brighter white.

I guess I could just throw some scattered 4300k HID bulbs in there just to make Serge bang his head against a wall... I dunno

There are other ways to make halogen light appear whiter, it involves the actual design of the bulb and the way it burns ... it is those changes that give Silverstars and other similar bulbs a shorter shelf life, for that is the price they pay for the whiter light. So some brands do whiter halogen light by design sacrificing life hours, others by coating which keeps life hours longer but sacrificing lumens.
