I've been thinking about plastidipping my grill on a 2008 Denali but have some concerns with the PD going through the grill into the radiator. Has anyone done this before and, if so, did you have to cover the radiator or anything behind the lower grill?

Thanks in advance!

I would take the grille out completely to avoid overspray on the truck and radiator. If you don't take it out I would def put some plastic or cardboard behind the grille to catch the overspray.

I stuck a towel behind it and also used painters tape around the grille to avoid overspray. Turned out perfect and didn't even take the grille off :)

Wonder how the towel worked - did you drape it behind the grill and over the radiator somehow?

Did you do the upper and lower grill? If so, how many cans did you use?

Got any pics of the process? Or of the grill?

Towel worked out great. Just stuff it behind the grille and your good to go. I did about 5-6 coats....so maybe 2 cans max.

I watched this video and got some tips before i did mine. You DON'T want to put the tape right on the edge of the grille. you actually do want to spray about a 1/2 inch onto the paint. This way it is easy to peel it off and you have a nice edge. Sorry....don't have any pics of the process or after i was done.

PD is some tough stuff it survived a direct hit with a turkey vulcher at about 70mph in the top driver side of the grille. Put a softball size dent in the hood and knocked off the M in the GMC but nothing wrong with the PD.

Great job, Rangel and goodinblack! Thanks for the pics!

I am hoping to do mine just haven't had the time to go get the PD. Once I do, I'll be sure to post pics.

Do it ^^^^

Looks meaner.:mexsmoke:

I did my Suburban and Yukon XL.

Yukon I took the grille out. It's easier.

The Suburban is a Pain......so I masked around it.

Not sure how to remove the grill/how long it takes so I am probably going to mask it off and do it. I bet it is much easier but I'm going to try the towel trick recommended earlier in this thread. Instead of a towel, I might use a piece of cardboard though.

Not sure if I should keep the emblem red or black it out too.

What would you recommend to clean the grill?

Do it all black. And to take it out is just a few bolts and several clips. The hardest part is figuring out where the are and how to release the clips. I prefer to take it off. But I did do a F-150 with the grille still on. That's a huge grille. Lots of taping.

As far a cleaning. I just used some brake cleaner and microfiber cloth.

The dumb bastard was DOA. It was a two lane highway and there was several eating a carcass on the side of the road. I knew it was coming. He took off from the opposite side of the road to be flying parallel with me then swooped down in front of me! IDIOT!

I wouldn't put that nasty thing in my freezer if it was the last thing on earth.
