So yesterday, I was in Highlands Ranch running some errands, and this blue 1st gen Durango was pacing me in the lane to my left. He'd floor it and take off at each light, trying to egg me on to race I guess. I didn't really take the bait since I'm not really into street racing, but finally he got annoying enough that I decided to go at the next light. *flips reprogrammed tow/haul mode on*

Those little durangos are pretty quick, he took me off the line...but I started pulling him when I ramped it up in first gear, and as soon as I shifted into second, my truck literally jumped about 1/2 a car length ahead. He never caught back up, but I shut it down at about 65 to turn at the next intersection. Quite awesome, if I do say so myself. That was one hell of a shift...the surge forward was nuts.

I can't wait to get the cammed 6.0 in this thing.

you remember to kick the hazards on? :D

Haha, you dick. :D No, no ricer flyby lol. I didn't even do that when I had my honda, lol. (of course, I always lost in the honda...hmmm...). To clarify, when I say he took me off the line, I don't mean that he had me by any large stretch. My front bumper was at his rear tire until I got the RPMs up a little, then I started pulling him...and once second gear kicked, he was in my rearview.

Besides, I didn't really care who won or lost, thats really not why I did it. I just wanted to see how it shifted with the reprogrammed shift tables in tow/haul mode. I was happily surprised.

Nna I'm running 91 up here at altitude. I didn't want to get a tune for 87, since 87 is considered "mid grade" here, and 85 is regular. Justin can't tune for 85 because as soon as you hit lower altitudes, you'd be pinging. 85 is just for us low oxygen mountain folk, lol. Since I'd already be paying extra for 87 octane, I just went full bore and got a 91 octane tune. It was worth it.

I haven't manually shifted to 2nd under a high throttle condition, but I sure do appreciate the lunge forward when doing so in auto mode with everyday driving in non-tow/haul mode compared to prior to the non-BB Tune!!!! :rocking: Still MUCH better than before the tune!

you can get the highest, say 91 or 93 tune.

If you put the math to it, power to cost, you 'might' spend an addition $3.00 to $5.00 (depending how much you put in) at each fill up. But the power difference is huge!

Word. It really is worth it. Especially with gas prices leveled out. They will go back up and we'll all be crying again...but I'm having my fun for now lol.

Max, I used to have a bumper sticker on my GTP that said "my lug nuts require more torque than your honda makes". I got alot of easy kills in that car from ricers who thought they could prove me wrong, lol.

Do it man, the gains far outweigh the money spent. Save your coin and go for it. :D

don't do what I did...I wasted a year waiting and wondering if it'd be worth it, in the end, I wasted a year. Best mod to date.

Thanks Yuk2k, I'm pretty much think I will go with the 89 octane tune because I don't want to get screwed over in the future by 87 going in a tank menat for 93. The 87/99 difference is small enough to minimize ping and any unnecessary mechanical issues that could arise.
Jenna (or anyone else), if you tune in, about how much extra HP can I push with the 89 over 87?

Get the 91 octane dude, not worth it to do the 87 or 89 :imo:

agreed.

The computer will sense detonation and will pull timing out, no matter what octane tune you do. Just don't let the extra $.30 to $.40 cents a gallon decide. It's a burger on each fill up.
