Changing Cabin Filter in 1999 Escalade

Howdy,

I've been trying to change the Cabin Filter in my Escalade but continue to run in to problems removing the "kick panel". This is because I can't seem to figure out what the "kick panel" is.

All the discussions I've read pretty much skip over the "kick panel" portion of their how-to (perhaps because the how-to's are based on GM trucks that don't have the "kick panel").

Another how-to mentions removing the four Phillips screws that hold the panel in place - my truck doesn't have Phillips screws beneath the glove box, it has 6-sided screws. I continue to run in to discrepancies online,

Can someone help me with this step? With pictures?

That's ur heater core box and ur blower motor... They require a 6 or 7 mm socket to get them open... But as far as I know theres no cabin filter in the OBS's... O and u kno where ur hood release latch is..? The plastic part bhind it is the kick panel... Since ur on the passenger side its the same location just flipped if u get wat I mean..?

Kick panel....the trim panel you can kick with your feet

Those pictures look EXACTLY like my 99 Yukon's. (Which is in pieces on my deck whilst I replace the Evap Core) Ain't no filter in there...

In obs models there's a filet accessible by the glove box I read somewhere they where removing them cleaning the area out along with the filter washing that out putting the old filter in and seeing great improvements....only nbs and nnbs models have them in the kick panel 2000-2012

If you pull out the blower motor you can clean all the leaves and gunk in there. No filter though.

Yep, no filter in a obs at all. no provisions for them. But cleaning out the leaves and gunk does work though.

There's a write up on cleaning it up but I don't feel like searching it. Good write up. Havnt tried myself since I have no ac rubro now but it will be on ny list eventually

It's a bit of a PITA but it's doable. It's still a ***** if you got big hands though.

You'll need to pull the blower motor if you do it without remvoing the entire dash... Have a 7/32" socket handy.

Here's some pictures of part of the HVAC unit. You'll see in the pic why the evap core needs to be cleaned out!


If you look at the two halves. On the right is the blower motor housing. I put a screen on that side when I reassembled mine. It should make cleaning it a bit easier. We'll see. I took everything apart and could not find a place to put a filter or screen other than there. And even that isn't the best solution...

The evap core comes from the factory with a screen on the BACK of it! (?)

Full pic of HVAC unit. Note the blower motor unit on the right side.

You'll see this under the glovebox.

Remove the glovebox.

Pull the two electrical connectors off.

Pull the sound cover off the blower motor.

Grab your 7/32" socket and remove the bolts.

Pull the rubber elbow off.

Remove blower motor.

Reach inside and to the left and grab as much crud as you can. Clean it all out with a vacuum and then go grab the hose and some Simple Green or something. Spray it down with cleaner and then water. Do it in this order to make sure the drain is clear. Otherwise you'll be cleaning your carpet, too.

Keep in mind the airflow seems to direct most of the heavy debris to the lower right hand corner of the evap core. (The lower area closest to the engine).

It is such a ****** design. No wonder GM is ******* broke.

I have the same exact problem, website will sell the filters but not one video shows our set-up, no kick panel. Took a long time to take a bunch of screws out and yanked down on the unit. No filter anywhere.
