LQ4 (6.0) in our Denalis
LQ9 (6.0) in the Escalades

LQ9 = 10.1:1 Compression
LQ4 = 9.41:1 Compression

LQ9 has roughly 20more hp due to compression? I believe

LQ4 = still better

Because its much stronger, can handle a lot more abuse

LQ4 takes forced induction much better then the LQ9 (Supercharger, Turbo..etc)

LQ4 is cheaper to beef up

I just realized I was thinking of the LS2 vs LQ4

LS2 is aluminum, LQ4/LQ9 is Cast Iron

and lots of people say they LQ9 (stock for stock) is stronger..however, like I said..if your planning of FI...the LQ4 will hold up a lot better due to the lower compression..

LQ9 takes premium?
LQ4 takes 87

The only real difference is in the pistons and maybe a slight varience on the heads, right?

LQ4 = dished pistons
LQ9 = flat top = slightly higher compression

If I had the choice, I'd still go with the LQ4 if it were me.

Parts are all the same but the compression does help. I believe the LQ9 rods were stronger too but I've seen 800tq out of LQ4s with arp hardware so they're all pretty solid. I'm stoked I have the LQ4 specifically due to the boost friendliness.

Lq9 ftw!

---------- Post added at 03:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:02 PM ----------

The 5.3 came in 4 versions, the LM7, LM4, L33 and L59. They had roughly 285-295 HP and 325-335 ft lbs of TQ. Except for the L33, it had around 10-15 more HP.

LQ9 with 10:1 compression, would be sweet driver.
Or, look for a 2007 L76, 6.0 motor.367 HP and 375 ft. lbs of TQ.

Found in 2007 Suburban, Avalanche, Silvarado, Sierra, or Yukon XL.

That would be a great find.

07 5.3 was LY5, 320 version.

LQ4 is 300 HP and 365 ft lbs TQ.
LQ9 is 10:1 with flattops, 347 HP and 380 ft lbs TQ.

L76 would still be the dominant one to have.
