So I just picked up a oem nav system on ebay and had a few questions I was hoping you all can help with. Included in the auction I won was;

OEM Nav System (part #: 25834072)
Nav Data Disc Version 3.0 (part #: 25850927)
GPS Antenna (not sure of part number)

Not sure if it matters but I have an 07 Tahoe LS (non-bose).
So to my questions...
Pretty much in general I just want to know what I'll need and maybe some problems or hurdles that are common...but more specifically,
1. Is there anything that I'll need to get before the install? I plan on taking it to someone to actually install it, but I want to make sure I have everything the guy will need.
2. What is the most current Nav Disc that I can upgrade to?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if it matters but it is listed as an OEM Denso Navigation from an 07 Silverado LTZ. Pictures below.

I think it should work fine with some programming. Which will be required anyways due to THEFTLOCK preventing you from using it until the dealer unlocks it.

You have all the parts for a general install, but I am not sure as this nav may require more Bose parts...reading other posts about it has confused me and I can't tell if you will or won't need it. I'd say just get it connected and programmed and see from there.

In fact, you can do some of it yourself. Radio removal in these vehicles is pretty easy, you just pry off the woodgrain/aluminum radio surround and then remove the 4 bolts. Unplug it and then you can swap radios and bolt it back in. I know the GPS antenna is under the very front dash panel right below your windshield, and it may just pop off like other trim panels. If you can do the install yourself, you'd save some $$ and then all you will need is programming.

Either way, keep us updated. I'd like to know for sure if this Bose nav will work in a non-Bose without anything extra, just out of curiosity.

Thanks for the info Zach.

Naturally a few more questions..

As far as the programing goes, is this something that needs to be done before the install (like do i need to bring the unit to a dealer?), or can someone do it once the system is in the dash? Any cost associated with the programming? Are dealers cool with doing it? I bought the system legit on ebay, but who knows where the guy before me got it...

If the system requires 'additional bose parts' as you suggested it might, do you think that they would be software (like a disc) or hard parts (like wires)?

Is the trim hard to remove? Have you done it? I'm sure I can find some more detailed threads from people who have swapped.

Probably a stupid question, but the steering wheel controls should still work correct?

Steering wheel controls will work fine with the nav.

As far as getting it programmed, do this after you get it installed. Right now, the nav isn't installed in anything, so therefore it isn't locked. But once you plug it in to your Tahoe and power it up, it will read the truck's computer and realize that the VIN programmed to your truck does not match the VIN programmed to the nav, therefore it will lock itself from being used. The dealers should have no problem with it whatsoever, they probably see a lot of it.

I know it won't require any kind of special disc, but it may need the Bose amp that is included on the Bose vehicles, but then again I'm still convinced that once they program your VIN to it, it will work fine. And as Tim said, you will need the VSS wire as well.

The trim panel is pretty easy. It is just held on by clips. Use a thin tool and pry it up, the clips will start popping out of place and then you can remove it with your hands. Just be cautious and/or use a soft tool if possible to reduce the chance of scratching your panel.

@Tim - Thank you for the heads up on the VSS wire. Any idea where I can get one? (checked ebay and nothing for tahoes).

@Zach - Thanks for the info - very helpful. I'm starting on this install with basically no knowledge on how these systems work. I think I'm going to hold off on getting the Bose amp until it looks like I need it. As far as the trim goes, do you recall where exactly the clips are on the panels. I just want to make sure I'm prying (man I cringe when I have to do that on the truck) in the right place.

So before I start digging into this, I should have;

Nav System
GPS Antenna
VSS Wire
Nav Disc.

Then once I have all of that hooked up, bring it to a dealer to "unlock" it or program it to my VIN. Sound right?

I will start by saying that I want to be wrong about this but I don't think I am. After your install and even after the programming by the dealership and after the VSS and GPS antenna installation the NAV should work well but your radio will only have one volume level and that will be low. There will be no adjustment and you will lose all chimes and turn signal indicators. The reason for all of this is the NON-Bose system and you are installing a Bose dependent radio. Others have added after market amps with some success but the road isn't an easy one. I have heard that there is a slight possibility that with the VIN of a NON-Bose vehicle that had a NAV come from the factory that the dealership tech can "fool" the system to work properly. At this time I have not been able to find anyone who has been able to do this but I still hold out hope. Good Luck!

This makes pretty good sense - looks like I'll probably be reselling all of the parts...

Okay I've been subscribed to this thread since it started. Here's my situation. I made a connection with someone down here in South Florida who totaled their '07 LTZ.

For $400 they sold me the Bose Nav/DVD head unit with the Bose Amp, all the Bose speakers and tweeters, Rear radio controls that go in the center console, the backup camera with camera module, and all kinds of wires and other modules in a box.

Can I convert my '07 non-Bose stock radio over?

Yes or No?

I would try what he suggested before he ships it back, look for a Tahoe without Bose but with factory navigation (try eBay?) and use the VIN from that. It sounds familiar, and legit.

If not, resell the navigation only and see if you can find the rare non-Bose nav. Try car-part.com, I always reference it because the parts on there are pretty cheap.

If you have the complete Bose setup then there should be no problem. The only incompatibility that has been noted to date is a NAV unit that depends on Bose going into a NON-Bose vehicle. That is where problems arise with the fixed low volume, no chimes, etc. Feel free to PM me if I may be of assistance.

Great, now I just have to find time to do it.

---------- Post added at 08:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:52 PM ----------

More questions.

As I mentioned I have the rear radio controls that were given to me. Can I hook them up?

Also, I'm dying to use the rear flip down DVD, but my AC controls are killing that idea. Is it possible to get the center console ac controls to work instead.
I know in the past people have said that it's impossible, or close to it, to change the front ac controls out, but how about the rear controls? are they dependent on the proper front controls? I know I'm going off topic a bit, but I would love to have the whole setup including the rear entertainment setup.

The rear center console AC controls would not work unless you changed your entire system to automatic.

Thanks Zach,

That's what I thought. Opening the Pandora's Box into another project with the AC situation.

I need to find the one guy who actually switched his AC from manual to automatic and see how much time and money went into it. Also see if he made a how to video I could watch. Apparently this mod is one of the rarest around.

One mod leads into another.....

John I am in the process of doing this as well. My sierra doesn't have bose. I have a oem nav unit with bose. I tried to install it and have the dealer reprogram it and it still didnt work. I exchanged it for a non bose w/o the dvd option and it was a no go as well. So I got my bose dvd unit back and actually sent it to a guy in california who claims he can program it to work properly, steering wheel controls, xm, bluetooth, onstar, camera, etc. I just sent it off today. He told me he has a bench tester for the denso units and can program it to your vin. I had to send him my vin and the rpo codes in the glove box. I just sent it today so I should have it back in a week. He also told me that he is able to make any unit work in any vehicle, that this is his business and has spent countless hours with denso to get properly trained to do this and that the techs at the dealership are not trained to do this extensive reprogramming. Sorry for the long post, I will update this as soon as I get it back. Oh yeah he charges 100 bucks plus shipping.

I have an 07 Tahoe LT (Non Bose) I got a Nav DVD Unit from car-part.com, got the VSS wire- could not hook it up to Onstar (could not find unit), I got a GPS Antenna, installed the entire unit, paid $100 to program at dealer. Radio works, but chimes are silent, and sound is super low. I am probably just going to sell package on Ebay and go aftermarket...

Thanks for posting this...sounds encouraging. Please keep me posted. I still have the unit, so this might be something worth trying. How did you find this guy?

This is the problem I was trying to avoid...Was your nav unit bose or non-bose?
