Add another one to the list. My brand new 2010 Yukon Denali won't recognize my Ipod Touch. Very frustrated. 1/10 times it will recognize it, but the response is spotty and then it quits.

I will tell you that I had a better luck BEFORE the iPod's moved to the latest iOS version, so tere may be a correlation where the latest iOS is not compatible with the GM Entertainment console.

Does anyone know if GM or Apple is aware of this problem and is offering a fix/firmware update/etc.?

See post #75 and #77.

I can really feel for you. But in my opinion I would suggest that there are two possible issues that can result in USB ports not working error. Firstly, you should check up when you attach a device to your computer, if there is an error message showing up at the right bottom of the desktop which says "USB Device Not Recognized". Then you will need to download a new one from the website of the manufacturer and install it on your PC. Then the hardware will be recognized by Windows system and be able to work. Secondly, if there is no error message "USB Device Not Recognized" showing up, that means your USB driver is damaged or outdated. USB driver is used for detecting USB devices. Without it, Windows system will not be able to detect and recognize any USB hardware. The only way to solve the problem is to install a new USB 2.0 driver for your computer. I suppose the problem always result from outdated or damaged device drivers. Then you will have to solve and avoid hardware not working problems is to update the drivers regularly.
So you just need to download and install new ones for your computer.
I hope you get what you need.
Good Luck..
Regards

Hey all, just caught on to this thread from a google search. Wondering if a new iPod classic will connect to a 2010 Escalade (usb port) with nav and rear seat entertainment (center monitor, not headrests) using the apple supplied 24 pin connector. Any response and/or advice is welcome. Thanks.

Yesterday and today I tried an Ipod Nano 2nd generation (slim blue with a little window) 4GB size - and it worked perfectly. Nav screen was quick and responsive and was able to switch back and forth quickly among playlists etc.

Worked as well as the Iphone4 should - and continued to play (no drop outs).

Well - I can now report some decent success: I reinstalled the 3.1.3 old OS back onto my Iphone 3G and it works perfectly now with my 2011 Tahoe with Nav screen/rear DVD. Ipod comes online automatically when you turn the headunit on or select "Aux", touch response is very responsive, fast and easy to navigate through playlists/menus and scrolling through the lists. I assume that that's all it does - but it's fantastic. I pitched all my CD's from the car - now I have 1,000 songs at my fingertips!

Followed these instructions - pretty simple once you have the 2 downloads:

http://iphonetouch.blorge.com/2010/06/28/how-to-re-install-iphone-os-3-1-3/

Works perfectly now. Fast and responsive - and no cut outs....knock wood.

Would therefore guess that Ipods with version 2.X should work too.

Good stuff here LTZ. I was thinking of taking my 3GS back to 4.0.2 and may still look for a way to do just that if the 4.2 updated doesn't fix this problem. Hopefully your contact at Apple will work some magic but I have to say I'll always be a bit scared to update the OS unless they can figure out what really gives.

On another note, has anyone noticed on the iPhone under Settings, General and About, if you are connected to your vehicle via USB it will give you a firmware version under GM. Here are the screenshots showing the firmware 1.0.0 under GM. I did noticed that you have to be connected via USB for GM to show up. As soon as you disconnect it disappears.

Robsieb:

I found that the 3G using 4.0.x worked better than the 4.1.x, however it was still very slow to respond. It was good for having some music, but unable to scroll, and switching playlists and menus was painfully slow.

If you dummy-down, I'd follow the directions I posted - and go all the way to 3.1.3. By the same token you may lose some of the additional features on your 3GS that were improved by 4.1.x OS.

To be clear: I have two Iphone 3G's that are not being used; and dummying-down to 3.1.3 makes them useful....but I don't use them for anything but an Ipod.

4.2 was released to developers today - hopefully on schedule for a "public" release in November?

Seems like it'd NOT be enough time to change for GM - but hope so. :)

I'd guess by Apple's track record we'll see the live version of 4.2 in a week to 10 days and I'll do the update (fingers crossed).

Can anyone with a late 2010 or early 2011 model connect via USB and let me know what version of firmware you are showing under GM? Reason I ask is that I was told that the firmware update I received from GM wasn't available to the general public way back when all this first started and I'm curious to see what the newer head units are shipping with now from GM.

I'll have to try this in the Escalade. I really like the USB feature, wish I could add it to my Tahoe somehow. I might just buy one of those aftermarket iPod kits that work with the steering wheel and such.

Or get an AVIC-Z120BT 7" screen with nav/dvd/bt/ipod/sd/usb ;)

LTZ:

Thanks.

Looks like the 2011's are shipping with the same firmware mine has. Good to see I've not missed out on any updates. It'll save me a trip to the dealer.

Holding out for 4.2 to hit. If that doesn't work I'll just go back to either my Nano or 2nd gen Touch with 4.1 that works fine. Just hate not being able to have it work on the iPhone.

OR - reload 3.1.3 on your Touch. That made it work best for me.

Strange thing is 4.1 works fine on the 2nd gen touch I have. My kids both have the 4th gen Touch and they have the same problem as my 3GS. Very inconsistent across the products.

It's been awhile since I posted here, things seemed ok after updating to 4.1, but that didn't last. The noise returned in full force, it just makes no sense. Anyway, I updated to 4.2 yesterday (am a developer) and the noise is definitely still there. I spoke to the dealership and they said there is a fix for one type of radio, but not the one I have (2010 yukon with nav and dvd), didn't ask him which radio the fix was for, I'm not sure the fix is even for the problem that we are all having anyway. I have begun using the headphone jack cable when it gets too annoying, which is ridiculous to have to do, but it sounds much better.

Mine is the unit with the rear seat entertainment (DVD) but no NAV. The fix (firmware update) I got back in April was supposedly before it was released to the public but I'm guessing it eventually made its way to the new units.

I know when I first started working on this issue in December of 09 I tested it on a NAV/DVD unit and it wouldn't even connect. It appears they may have fixed that issue with that unit and may be what the dealer is telling you.

I have an 09 Tahoe with no port, but have rented a few newer Tahoes with ports on the road. All had no nav, no rear dvd, and all worked fine with my iPhone 4. OS 4.1. Is there a good solution out there to adding a USB port to an 09 or older?

Apple just released iOS 4.2 today and I immediately updated my 3GS. All is back to normal now regarding the USB connection and playback. Charging is still not supported but as long as I can play music I could care less about charging at this point.

Received email from Jeff Maranhas at Apple, today. He says that 4.2 is available and that "I think we've addressed the problem for you" .

I'm downloading now....hope it works. Good luck everyone.

But how cool is that? LOL
