I have done some reading and research but have not found a concrete answer.

For your truck, when the engine battery needs replaced, what is your battery of choice? Currently driving a 23 Yukon and will need to eventually replace the battery, so I am starting to scour the options now for when the day comes.

Also, are most people doing it themselves, or is this more of one of those "let the dealer mess with it" type of things?

interstate from costco should be roughly $160-180, take the old one with you to cover the core charge.

Pretty much all batteries come from less than handful of factories, so pick which ever fits your budget and has the best warranty.

My current pick is Duracell from Batteries Plus. Have one in my truck and bike and also had one in wife’s old 17 Suburban. When the one in her current 21 Suburban needs replacement, I’ll probably go with another Duracell.

Or an Interstate from Costco.

I usually replace every four years. Had really good luck with Walmarts top line and their AGM batteries have a 4 yr replacement warranty. I have went to four different WMs to find the absolute freshest delivery dated battery. These super high tech charging systems don't like batteries sulfated from sitting on a shelf for months.

Am I the only one who finds it difficult to decipher the date on the battery without any help? Or is there a trick to this?

Usually a sticker on the side with a regular shipping date number. The actual date of manufacture is usually stamped into the plastic and that is a tough number to decode sometimes.

I bought an AC Delco replacement at my buddy's auto parts store. During the PICO test, I got an OnStar message about battery. Truck is 2021, so as soon as I got it back I replaced it.

Sam's Club, hands down. Good AGM's with a good warranty. And they install it free. What more could you want?
This isn't a 5 minute install on this vehicle.

Depends on your priorities. Are you a DIY, or do you like to just have it handled?

Best AGM batteries you can buy are made by Enersys (Odyssey or Northsrar or X2 Power from Batteries Plus)
My next choice would be East Penn manufactured stuff (Many Store Brands, I think the aforementioned Duracells, Some at Autozone)
Clarios (former Johnson Controls power systems) makes some as well, I think they make the Delco’s.
I used to love the Interstates from Costco, but the last 3 I’ve put in my kid’s CRV’s have not held up.
Continental Battery sources their AGM’s from S. Korea, but my boat dealer swears by them.

Price is mostly determined by the warranty.

like I already said, costco interstate, they have a sticker on them that shows the date, they do not sit on the shelf for months......
if you got here right now they will almost all have a 2 on them
they are on a forward sliding rack, if you wait a few days you will have 3's on the shelf
there's really only about 3 battery manufactures anyway just everything you buy at walmart, batterys plus, auto zone, o'reillys, car quest, or any other store are all the same they just put there own label on it...
the only good thing about that is if one place has them on sale then go for it, it's the same battery at the other store for $20 more...
DON'T BE FOOLED, by a sticker

I beg to differ on that one. They used to be good, but at least in my motorcycle applications their quality has gone down over the last few years and, IMO, are not worth the price.

YMMV, as usual.

You’d let a Costco clown install your battery?! They’d probably wire it backwards and put some nice scratches in your engine bay by banging it around.

You can never go wrong with an OEM ACDelco battery.

Here is a good video on battery replacement: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/thr...acement-2021-yukon-tahoe-suburban-etc.151447/

Well, 1st of all ... Costco doesn't install batteries, so reading is fundamental. 2nd of all, Sam's changes batteries all day every day and if they were damaging vehicles or doing it wrong it would surely be well known. My Sams has some 30–50-year-old guys busting tires and doing batteries as a full-time job. I watched them change the battery on my old Jeep Grand Cherokee under the passenger seat and it's no easy job. The had the seat all the way forward.. had that battery in out and hooked up in about 20 min. For sure had done it before. No damage and a perfect job. 2nd vehicle of mine was a 2500 Cummins with 2 huge batteries that they had to lift chest high while standing on a ladder. both out and in. Flawless. Would have never attempted myself. All at prices and warranties that are hard to beat. A supervisor checks all work before returning vehicle to the customer.. all while you can stand and watch..... They have done my Tires on my 21 with powder coated rims and there was not one mark on the rims. I'd trust them over my dealer any day....

Sam’s. Costco. All same crap.

I only trust myself, and it’s done 120% correct all the time.

I’m sure they even use stud extenders when they change your wheels because they don’t want to put one knick on your wheel barrel like I do.

Maybe you’re just old and decrepit that you can’t lift a battery??

Well, I am old and I'll gladly exchange a few dollars for accidentally dropping a battery or just having to deal with it. Can I do it? Sure if I had to.... but Life is short and I left the perfectionist attitude behind me long ago. All these vehicles are to me is just nice hunks of Iron to haul me around. Have a nice day :)

not a chance, I install my own batteries. Even if the service is for free.
now if timmy wants to rotate my tires, knock yourself out but I am taking my wheel covers off first.
