Has anyone successfully installed a smaller diameter steering wheel? I could use more room between my wheel and the door panel on my 2008 Yukon based 1941 Cadillac, and I figure if anyone has done it it would be someone here. I’d like to keep the steering wheel controls functional.

@kbuskill messed around with a couple, not sure if they were any smaller or not. The ones from a older gm or maybe from a sedan might work but would require some trickery with the wire harness for controls or clockspring...

***CAUTION*** I do my own stunts!
The one I tried to use from a Buick Enclave looks identical except it has wood at the top and bottom. It was physically the same size but for some reason GM decided to change the size of the splined section of the steering shaft to a bigger size on the Buick.
I read this was also the case back in the '50s when guys wanted to swap a Cadillac or Buick steering wheel onto there Chevrolet they discovered the hole in the steering wheel was too big. I'm not sure if this was some kind of carry over from before the general bought out Buick and Cadillac or what. The whole thing makes zero sense to me. GM has always been really good about parts interchangeability between different platforms. I wrongly assumed after looking at the wheel that it would just bolt right on.
I now have a really nice Titanium Gray leather wheel with wood at the top and bottom that does not fit a Suburban if anyone is looking for one... lol
some type of sleeve insert might work

Yeah, I thought about that but figured having something machined to fit with splines inside and out would probably be cost prohibitive.
I ended up going back with just the plain leather wheel and added the "wood" covers on the spokes.

MAYBE an '07-'09 equinox/buick-lucerne/cadillac-dts wheel?
(I don't know if they are any smaller or if the splines match up...)
But the controls look to have the same resistor values and functions..
(buttons themselves look the same too)
Same nut is used also..
The controls are mounted closer to centerline of steering shaft..
So it might put your hands higher up.. and if you tilted it down, you might not see the cluster...
There's a few of these new on ebay.. And airbags are available too for reasonable.. Hmmmm....
