If there is money to be made bucking GM's plans, the aftermarket world will respond. Heck, interface devices were created and sold to folks who wanted an aftermarket head unit, but still wanted to retain steering wheel controls.

... or maybe people will just shift towards brands that haven't eliminated Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.

It is quite possible for sure. But, I'm not sure that most folks would place a go/no go vehicle purchase decision, simply on the infotainment system.

I'm probably an outlier here, as I automatically assume that I will be replacing the audio system on any vehicle purchase, since I've done that to every vehicle that I've ever owned.

I have ‘24 Yukon and a ‘25 1500… my radar is one of my carplay tools that i really like… xmradio is another.. the ford V8 is still ok in comparison to gm… trans are the same on the trucks…

I really do not think mary has her head on straight.. i have EE degree and an mba… this is something you question customers on…

On both vehicles there some follow up questions on carplay.. with after the fact gm surveys.. i need it.. fords are easy to get.. and thier carplay runs the whole screen too..

Certainly you can loose 20% of you customers… and still be ahead if you charge enough for access to you home grown system..

Eh, who cares. I’ve had CarPlay before in another vehicle. It’s so clunky I turned it off.

I could care less that neither of my Hoes has it.

I like Apple CarPlay but it can be annoying sometimes as it stumbles or freezes up sometimes since it is in essence just a projection from our phones to the infotainment screen. It hasn’t happened yet in the ‘25 HC.

I don’t care for it enough to NOT be a GM customer in the future but the thing is that I don’t care to have my phone being used/connected the entire time to use Apple CarPlay, I had to put my phone in the ac ductwork to get it to cool down while using the Waze navigation app in a rental vehicle a couple of times in the past.

I would prefer Apple put out a CarPlay app that can be downloaded from the app store and run using the built in system and decouple our phones from the process but until then we still have bluetooth for an interface if CarPlay is not available or installed.

I also downloaded my radar and it definitely came in handy while traveling.

For more than 10 years now Mary Barra and her team has brought GM out of the good ol boys and don’t upset the apple cart era to make GM profitable and their vehicles more competitive and respectable plus the shareholders seems to have great confidence in what she and her team are doing, they are the most stable and profitable of the Big 3.

OnStar reportedly brought in over 2 Billion in profits in the last quarter so I can see why GM would rather keep as much of the potential money making systems in-house like Apple which has a closed system unlike Android.

Gm just wants a bigger slice of the pie, if you are forced to use the built in system it has to have a wireless connection......you get to pay for that as well
Gm is also Hedging it's bets on "mobility as a service" in cities and high population urban area's

I really like CarPlay in my ‘25. Don’t use it allot but when I do it works/integrates seemlessly with the google based system.
Actually, the whole google based system in my 25 is better than I thought it would be. What happens after the end of 3 years will be the question, along with the cost of it...

I 100% refuse, with great prejudice, to subscribe to my car.

I own the damn thing, I'm not paying a monthly fee to use it. No exceptions, no negation , the answer is no.

Not even free trials (which really confused the dealership sales guy, when he asked me to press the OnStar button during vehicle delivery. I pressed the button, they answered and I said, I didn't want their service or free trial and to stop asking).
