2004 Yukon Denali, want a bit more rumble, a bit deeper sound but not too crazy. I had done some research and listened to some clips and had settled on the Magnaflow 12599. However I've seen that Gibson has a full cat back (specifically, #615534) available for our trucks. Haven't been able to find any sound clips though.

Thoughts? Anyone have that Gibson and can comment?

Currently just have Airaid MIT and will eventually get a tune.

Thanks.

I can't help you on that specific Gibson cat back exhaust. My Gibson Extreme cat back exhaust is way louder than you would want, but it is made specifically to be loud. The one that you are looking at would be less noisy.

Check this out (I did not):

I too am interested in these offerings. I researched both options, but have not pulled the trigger. I beleive Magnaflow has two options for our rigs, one with characteristics that you mention, and another that some may consider more aggressive. My concern has always been highway speed drone.

"My concern has always been highway speed drone"

That is what a good loud sound system is for. :chewie:

Forgot to ask... any benefit to going full catback versus just the muffler?

IMO, for most applications, there would be no significant difference, and it would be more about the look/aesthetics of where the exhaust pipe(s) tail exits and how the pipe(s) tail looks. Most cat back systems for these trucks will have a 3" single pipe exiting the muffler for a single exhaust pipe or two 2.75" pipes for a dual exhaust pipe, and either configuration offers sufficient exhaust outflow for stock motor systems.

For my Gibson Extreme cat back exhaust system, there is a 3 1/2" exhaust pipe exiting the Y-collector and two 3" exhaust pipes exiting the muffler. Even with my 6.2L motor supercharged, I don't think that I need these increased exhaust pipe diameters to achieve the motor's full potential with this performance mod.

I have Gibson catback on my 97 Tahoe (Gibson headers) and my 2010 Express and love them both. Nice rumble, but not too loud and no drone in the cab. Also had one on my 2004 Astro. It was also nice.

I run a Magnaflow in my 11 Tahoe but I did try a Flowmaster 40 series which had a loud drone that bother both myself and my wife. Didn't try a Gibson. Magnaflow 3" inlet twin 2.5" outlets running out the back. Sounds awesome! I do run a Range Technology AFM delete to stop 4 cylinder drone.

Sounds really good. Get any drone in the cab?
Surprisingly none, I had the same mufflers on my Gen 5 Camaro with long tube headers and didn't get drone there either. My 5.7 300S had Super 40s on it and it droned like crazy around 17-1900 RPM, meaning the entire time you're driving lol

I had an MBRP on mine. It droned like crazy. Once it rotted i went with a quieter muffler--AP brand, one that @iamdub recommended. So happy now, no drone.

Ok got the Gibson installed and here's links to how it sounds... lemme know what you all think. I like it, deeper than stock and a bit louder.

Startup from inside the truck:

Startup from the outside:

Walkaround on the outside:

Closeup of the tailpipe. There's some strange sounds going on there, indicative of some kind of issue?

It's pretty quiet. I don't hear anything strange coming from the tailpipe. Is everything nice and tight back there? Maybe that's what you're hearing.
