I've lost the trans again in my truck, 6l80 (replaced 10k miles ago by gm). Looking at either having mine rebuilt, or buying one. I've got a 6.2, gapped for boost, stage 2 boost cam, mildly modded heads, no blower yet, but is coming. Only looking for around 650 to the tires. what trans would you buy, or what kit would you buy to rebuild? Thanks

If GM replaced the transmission 10,000 miles ago, I'd get them to replace it under warranty. And then take that transmission and have it beefed up..... And pay special attention to the torque converter you're going to use.

I have a level 2 build on Youtube that was built for a truck and engine power level identical to yours...Was a supercharged 6.2 Sierra making 650HP.

What part of the country are you in?

this was my thought as well. Going to touch base with them tomorrow and see what we can do from there.

Tell them you'll just pick it up and do the install yourself.... Nothing better than upgrading a brand new clean transmission on the bench

okay, finally heard back from gm. The current trans is no longer under warranty. local shop to me told me id be about $5000 out the door. Does this sound right?

Should i consider monster transmission? They have built options, and one rated for 650 is about $3700. I can do the removal and install myself, so that is not issue. What would you guys do?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

They cut more corners than anyone Ive ever seen when it comes to building transmissions. $3,700 for a 650hp capable transmission should tell you everything you need to know. My 6L80 Performance Rebuild series, referred to by @SpareParts , covers the build up of a 650 HP transmission and while I wont tell you exactly what it cost the customer, it's a whole lot more than $3,700.00.

Review page one of my 6L80 Info thread - link is in my signature line. Compare that list of parts and procedures all of my Level One 6L80s receive to what local shops tell you they do to the transmission. LMK if you have any questions.

you are better off just having a REPUTABLE local shop build it for you, be upfront and tell them you are looking to put 650 to the wheels
that way there is no confusion about what you expect and what they expect as far as durability and warranty.
I had mine built for 500hp, I was very upfront about it, the shop & I went over what could be done to prevent known failures
and 4 years later it's still as solid as a rock and I beat the crap out of it often.
my cost was a hair over $4k with a good customer discount, so it was more around $5k originally
that included custom work, billet tc, extra clutches, new techm, etc and a 3yr 100k warranty.
if the shop is not busy and/or can't take 10-15 minutes or more to talk about it and maybe even show you hands on a few things about these transmissions
then find another shop.
maybe get on some local race club forums and ask them who they recommend for transmission builds....in your area

Thanks man. Are you interested in building one and shipping? if so, you've got a customer. Talked to 4 other shops today, and all of them told me a basic rebuild would be okay, so i dont trust them whatsoever.

I can certainly do that! will send you a PM a little later today with my contact info so we can explore having you ship me the trans for overhaul.
