In October of 2023 I purchased a 2023 6.2L GMC Yukon Denali. I have only put 9,100 miles on it and am thinking of selling it. I am seriously concerned about the engine issues that these vehicles are having.. I wish I knew what % of these 6.2L engines were failing so I could decide if it were worth the gamble of keeping it. In any event, I paid about $92K for it and put a $1700 set oz Yokohama Geolanders on it. If I were to sell it what is my best avenue and what should I ask for it? Craigs list? Facebook Marketplace? I guess another option would be to trade it in to the dealer for a model that is not having this issue..

Selling any vehicle private party is always more of a pain BUT youll get higher value (in most cases).

Your best bet is to get offers from Carvana, Carmax, Vroom, and any other online shop. Then also go on to KBB and NADA to get your vehicles value.

I would then trade it in to whatever dealership you are purchasing the next vehicle from so you can capitalize on the tax savings as well. If you dont do the first part, be prepared for the dealership to lowball you on the trade.

Many others have the opinion that yes the engines have issues but GM makes a LOT of these trucks and engines for years. We only see the worst/most vocal owners.
Is there an issue: yes. Is it extreme: yes. Is it really that prevalent? Eh. Debatable.

I think most ppl who have these trucks would recommend reactivating AFM and roll on. The couple hundred $ is going to be far less than the hit you will take on trading after two years. Roughly I think you might get about $60k for your truck. For better guestimates go onto Autotrader and do a national search of your model and year. Whatever you see as list, subtract $5-10k and that is likely what you will be offered. Few exceptions out here is Carvana or Carmax is desperate but will be pretty close.

Good luck with your choice and I think seeing how the NHTSA outcome pans out you might get a nice GM warranty for a long while to serve you and the truck.

I've got the 6.2L in my 2021. It has 93K miles now with lots of towing. I love the engine and (knock on wood) haven't had any issues with it. I run Amsoil and change the oil every 15k miles. I personally would not be trading your vehicle in because of those concerns, especially with no signs of trouble and with over 50k miles left on the factory warranty.

Oil change every 15k miles? Is this a typo, or do you really keep the oil in the motor for that many miles?

Is there a recommended company to get a warranty like this through?

Oil change every 15k miles on a tow rig? This has to be a typo…

No typo. It is Amsoil Signature Series synthetic designed for 25k highway miles. I change at 15k for combined driving per my mechanic's recommendations.

LOL about the oil that is hilarious.. probably 0w20 at that. . . please fire your ‘mechanic’

As far as OP, it is really unfortunate that you’ve let the rah rah get to your head. The failure-per-vehicles-produced ratio is quite low.

But For one thing, there’s no way I would put an 80-90K truck for sale on FBMP or Craigslist in particular. Some might disagree fine, but truth is any vehicle transaction over 20K has no business being done private party imo for a plethora of reasons. Sell it outright to a dealer, carmax, carvana, or some legit company that actually has the funds to back the check they cut you.

I don’t have the luxury of saying nah, i don’t want it anymore after spending 100k on a truck, but if i was in your shoes, maybe I’d sell it and then go get a Tahoe with the diesel.

It's 30w oil. I'm not recommending anyone do what I do; I simply stated what I do. Everyone here is empowered with the ability to do their own research and draw their own conclusions. There is lots out there on Amsoil Signature Series. Agree or disagree with information available, hopefully future responses at least have the benefit of the information before forming and posting opinions.

No offense was meant by anyone. I asked the question because it is highly unusual for someone to change oil at 15k miles on these trucks. That does not mean that it is wrong or anything else negative with the practice, it simply means that this specific oil change mileage interval is different than the norm. Regarding opinions, we all have opinions and we are all free to express them in a respectful manner.

Doesn't really matter how good the oil is when it has an appreciable amount of fuel dilution in it ,,,, and these direct injection engines are notorious for fuel dilution.

If you haven't already, it might be an eye opener to run a used oil analysis. Blackstone labs is a popular place that does them, but Amsoil even third parties out a place to do used oil analysis if you want to go through them.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. In the below UOA (used oil analysis) I had 1.3% fuel dilution ,,,, but I only had 3K miles on that oil. At that rate , the oil would've had 6.5% fuel dilution at 15K miles, which is bad, like real bad. Wouldn't matter if it was Amsoil or Walmart supertech in the crankcase if there is 6.5% fuel in there with it.

That is good feedback. I would like some concrete evidence that the failure rate is low. I know 3 people with this engine and one is bad.. I am hoping it is a low rate of failure and if it is I would certainly keep the rig. I see what my buddy is going through with GM to get resolution on his and it is not pretty.. Do you have a basis for an opinion that the failure rate is low?

I know several people who have had this engine fail.

My 2023 is currently 2 states away from me waiting for its 3rd engine in 36k miles. It’s left me stranded and in dangerous situations twice.

Generally speaking, when NHTSA gets involved with an issue, the failure rate isn't what most would consider low enough.
