Past life as a GM dealer service advisor...no. Now, you can and should price 2-3 and make them bid against each other. There is SOME room on pricing but some dealers negotiate and some don't. If you bought it from a GM dealer, that will likely be where you get your best price. Perfect world, buy GMPP from the GM dealer you both bought it from and will service it at. That's your best shot at a decent price. There are no other extended warranty companies that compare. Most are a PITA, a couple are OK but still not as good as GMPP. GMPP or nothin'. Either buy the GMPP from a GM dealer (preferably the one you will use) or stash cash for repairs.

Very good question. Can someone please provide an answer to this?
You used to be able to buy a GMPP right up until the end of the 3/36 warranty. Price was a little higher than if you got it when new. Not sure if that still applies....

I sold cars for over 2 decades, an Extended Warranty is an insurance policy, you are betting something will go wrong, they are betting something won't. Personally, I would only sell a brand associated policy, in this case GMPP becuae you have a breand that at least has some skin in the game to keep you happy and to buy another GM product down the road. I woudl not sell an outside company because they will look for a reason NOT to pay.

If you go to GM's site, you see the list price, these published prices tend to be keystoned, that means that the retail price is 2x the cost, a $2K warranty costs the dealer $1K, so you want to be as close to half of the retail as you can and no, you do not have to buy from your originating dealer, any dealer can sell you one, you can even go back to your dealer after the sale. At that point, they look at it as found money. Also, do this in the last few days of the month ... a little more incentive to make thier bonuess.

I bought one (Non-GM, sorry) and probably paid a little too much, but a big thing for me was they covered in writing that the diesel emissions system was covered too. Thats the main expensive thing that could go wrong and I'd get all my money back ++ if it did. Plus, covers everything else. I've wasted money on worse things... The last one I bought paid off handsomely on my 6 year Jeep GC EcoDiesel....

I’d read your contract. It’s either inclusionary or exclusionary. If the former, only covers listed parts, if the latter, covers every part but the listed exclusions. Never seen one that has no exclusions…just be informed, read what you have.

How much did they charge you?
It's been over a year so I would just get a quote as there's different options for mileage, number of years, and deductions.

I know many have voice their opinions here about extended warranties but I always get one since I keep my vehicles for many years. I always go with the manufacturer warrenty and never a third party.

Oh it has exclusions, but I confirmed the things that many policies exclude and important to me WERE covered. As a long term diesel owner, I’m up on what can and sometimes does go bad with them. Most policies exclude those item’s purposely. This one did not. I called and talked to them about specific Parts and coverages before purchasing…..

If you are still in the original factory warranty, you can still get full boat GMPP. Beyond that, I think they might still have options, make a quick phone call to confirm...they will know right away.

3 years / 36k miles? Or what does it mean? Thanks
They will only extend coverage if you are still under the 3/36 warranty, not the 5/60 powertrain warranty. At least that's how it used to be.

awesome information! Does the extended warranty kick in after factory warranty or is it basically replacing the 3/36 term?

Very interested in this also. I thought base was 60months/60k miles for powertrain and 36/36k miles bumper-to-bumper.

Went to the Knapp Motors and Smithchevy site to get a quote for our Tahoe, quote request just went around and around back to the opening page or will respond later, no real pricing info obtained without calling I suppose. Anyone have any actual luck getting a quote? Are these sites actually selling the GMPP or is this a bait for some aftermarket misery?
