GM Stops Selling 3.0L Duramax Diesel Due To Supplier Shortage:

Currently, the LM2 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine powers a variety of GM trucks and SUVs, namely the Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, and Suburban; GMC Yukon and Sierra; and Cadillac Escalade.

We would like to remind you that this report is still filed as a rumor at this point – at least until GM releases an official statement about the matter. We suspect more news about the stoppage will rise

in the coming week, so we'll be on our toes. As of this writing, the Duramax diesel engine option is still available for the mentioned vehicles via the applicable websites.

Certainly not something you want to hear if you're planning to get one soon.

General Motors has allegedly stopped selling the LM2 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine. That's if we're to

believe the anonymous tip sent to The Fast Lane Truck, which shows a copy of the message sent to GMC dealer

operators and sale managers, dated August 27, 2021. According to the message, the "availability of the LM2 diesel

engine has changed to zero" due to a last-minute supplier shortage.

Of note, the tip sent didn't mention any specifics regarding the shortage nor did it specify any future plan. It did, however,

encourage dealers to offer the gasoline-powered counterparts (5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8) by removing ordering constraint

I hope this will mot effect next years 2022 yukon

The message to the GMC dealer only calls out the Sierra, so no word yet if it affects the Yukons. --of note, late last week, it was posted online that there is a country wide shortage of the Delco PF66 oil filter for the 3.0 duramax. There's a possibility that is the holdup....

That's because on every Dmax oil war thread you read, half the people pipe in with "I'm good, I bought 10 at Rock auto' Just like toilet paper, Some people aren't happy until they have a lifetime supply on their shelves.....

o_O My wife is not gonna be happy. We ordered a Denali XL Ultimate with duramax for her on 2/6/21. Never went past 1100 status. We just reordered a MY22. Dealer doesn't have an allocation yet. She was already irked at how long she's waited. Then they dropped her preferred color (Dark Sky Metallic). I'm not sure I can tell her that the engine will now be on constraint.

Wow, when I look at a lot of dealers on the Yukon's they say in transit, but when you call them up and asked them about them they have no idea when they're going to get there.

I'm hoping I can get my order this Labor Day for a 2022 Yukon Denali Diesel. But as the way things are going. Who knows
when I will receive it.

Dark sky metallic was the one I was interested in also, and now they've dropped it , and no Super Cruise in 2022
I'll have to settle Stainless Steel Metallic and adaptive cruise control. Not sure about the Redwood Metallic

The Tahoe loses two colors but gains three new colors-Auburn Metallic-Evergreen Gray Metallic-Dark Ash Metallic.
I would probably like to order the Yukon in the Dark Ash metallic if it was available.

The oddity of the 3 color adds for chevy vs 2 for GMC - the Evergreen Gray Metalic is the Denali Hunter Metallic, still exclusive to Denali on the Yukons, but available on most all of the chevys. Redwood/Auburn are the same as the new Corvette Caffiene metallic -

I just took delivery of a Tahoe LT Duramax last week 7 weeks after I ordered it at a dealership in northern Michigan. I had no idea they were so elusive for some people. Maybe some of the smaller dealerships have more unused allocations and can order whatever they need because of that?

When did your order get entered? I just placed an order last week for a Duramax Denali XL and the only thing I was told was unavailable was the PDH interior protection package.

I placed an order on septembre 6 and the dealer called me with an order number on september 17. He was also able to add the luxury package, wich was not available when I first ordered.
I too am ordering from a small town (in Canada), I don’t think they sell many Tahoes around here, so maybe they had allocations.
Don’t wanna get my hopes to high but it’s a first step! It would be a great christmas gift, or miracle.

They are building shy at Arlington. My 2022 is on MP hold. So I’m guessing it’s going to be a wait.

So glad my Yukon SLT popped up when it did in August. Love the motor so far and the vehicle is the nicest I have owned in 60+ years on this blue marble!
