Test drove a Tahoe, read new reports of trouble daily and also compared multiple owner ratings from several car rating services and compared to last years model.

I don't think your experience with one sample and a few reads of happy owners who may be justifying their purchase makes your opinion any more valid than mine. In fact my experience with more GM trucks than I care to count and nine years with my 2012 Tahoe may give my opinion more weight. I can tell you that comparing things like carpet, head liner and trim quality I prefer my 2012, the pieces just look more substantial. I've had zero problems including no loose light fixtures like I found in the 2021. I look for excuses to trade to the new model and find it hard to justify beyond a few electronic gizmos, a modern exterior and a little better ride but all new vehicles drive, well, like a new car.

I may end up ordering a 2022 if these troubling reports of build quality and parts failures decline but from what I saw and am hearing GM needs to up their game. And that is a common opinion which even a tech told me, "If you're not having any problems with the one you have you better keep it."

Why even the Chevy service department where I've been going has slipped. Last time I had an oil change they ran through oil and it was on the running boards and wheel wells. I thought it was water when I pick it up. There was a speck of grease on the inside of the door that if I hadn't seen it it would have been on my pants, the floor mats were smeared with greasy marks. Used to be when oil changes were half as much as today they would put paper on the mats and plastic on the seats. When I checked my oil level the oil didn't appear as clean as it should.

I used to go the service department in my home town until they wrecked my truck backing it out of the service bay. Tried them again 10 years later and they drug the fill hose across my open hood. The Tahoe was very dirty and it left scratches that had to be buffed out. You might say I'm very leery of even letting them touch my vehicles and at 66 years old I'm considering crawling under the Tahoe to change my own oil.

I admit some of this is rambling but I thought it useful to explain my point of view and that is quality and caring are on the decline and rather than accept it I choose to highlight it.
I personally own one of these and in the last 4 days alone have put over 1k miles on it. The first hand experience of an actual owner is certainly more valid of an opinion than someone who's done a test drive and then got the rest of their "experience" from browsing the internet. Talk to actual owners in person or better yet own one yourself and then opinions come with more credibility. I've seen you post alot of unfair ciritcisim about these new models and with all due respect you don't have any skin in the game, which makes me wonder what's really going on here which sounds like you have generally lost trust in GM products. I highly doubt that waiting on a 2022 will convince you otherwise. You might want to look into the Sequoia if you want better brand reliability, but you will be jealous when a new Tahoe or yukon pulls up next to you.

This is the procedure. Fold down either using the power fold or using the strap then fold back and pull up on the seat to put back in normal position.

From my understanding, and experience, there are two different operations here ...

1. You fold and lift the entire second row seat up to gain third row access. In this scenario, I can simply put the backseat and backrest back in the upright position without engaging anything.
2. You only fold the backrest down so everything is flat. In this scenario, I have to engage the lever to put the backrest back in the upright position.

Watching the video, this is what I observed as well. I maybe misinterpreting something, but I don't think I am.

One should accept your first hand experience but not the ones reporting problems? The theory is that more customers report bad experiences than good but here I would guess them to be about evenly split, not sure what to make of that beyond what seems to be everyone's returning for service of some kind and this is accepted as normal. So, it is hard to get a grasp on actual reliability of the latest model year where waiting will provide better numbers but for now the offering isn't compelling enough to purchase. I do wonder if some of these posts aren't concocted by the bored junior salesmen seen texting at their desks.

From now on I'll refrain from criticizing the 2021 other than to mention some of the Escalade's accoutrements were a bit disappointing, a bit flashy initially but also a bit flimsy like the tired overused faux wood looking lid over the cup holders. A testament to a hundred grand ain't what it used to be.

Just wanted to let you guys know that truck is at the dealer so I ll inform you what the issue turns out to be. We love the vehicle so far there will be hiccups but the price of these vehicles keep going up and it’s not the first time building and designing one. At this point they should be on there game. The Purpose of these vehicles are to transport our families hard to do when you don’t have a seat to sit ,just happy it happened when I was home and not 4 hrs away on a family trip. But the vehicle is amazing just wanted to see if anyone else had the same issue Thanks

I’d like to hear the disposition of this issue. You’d be surprised how many issues are resolved at the dealership when you can describe not only the problems but the solutions too

I know it is disappointing to have a problem in a new vehicle but this is probably just a loose cable on the inside of the seat. The older Tahoes removable 3rd row seats continue to have a lot of issues with the folding pull handles cables coming loose and I dont think the seat suppliers are any better on these newer models.

So dealer confirmed that there was a problem. But at some point the tech lifted up on the seat and it started working again. So nothing was changed, maybe the mechanism was jammed??. Other than this hiccup it’s an awesome vehicle.

Good news. Minor inconveniences to be expected on a redesign, I agree these are otherwise awesome trucks.
