Yeah buddy. It was a good time and lots of cool rides. Pretty relaxed. Getting there early was cool to watch the parade of cars as it got busy during the peak hours.

Video was worth it for so many cars.

Picked up my boy from his cross country meet this afternoon in Cooper City and had a good back drop, so I took a pic.

Get you 2 of these and paint them to match and fill those holes in front bumper. I polished out 2 for my front chrome bumper.

Yes indeed. That little touch has been on the list forever.

Just updated my hit list. Thx for the reminder. At least it’s an easy one. Lol. I might even have some carriage bolts in my shed and some left over rattle can paint too.

Pulled a PO446 code the other day. Had this code a while back and replaced the ACDelco 214-1105 GM Original Equipment Vapor Canister Purge Valve and cleared the code. Found it on Amazon for $19.20. This part is located on top of the manifold, under the cover. Two 8mm bolts, an electrical plug and a hose and this swap is done in about 10 minutes.

Note the carbon pellets.

After a bit more discussion on the NBS thread, I decided to go ahead and replace the other 2 parts of the system. I cross checked the part numbers on RockAuto, but found the best prices on all 3 parts were on Amazon. Plus a gift card helped.

ACDelco 215-464 GM Original Equipment Vapor Canister
$86.01

and

ACDelco 214-2149 Professional Vapor CanisterVent Solenoid
$14.07

This is the OEM assembly removed.

These two parts go together and are located just behind the fuel tank, directly above the rear axle and inside the exhaust as it bends over the rear axle on the passenger side.

Stock height gives plenty of room. Being lowered makes it very tight under there and assembly is tucked in there pretty good. There is not much play as the pre-bent hoses coming out of the fuel tank fit perfectly. It does not give you much play to work with or get your hands in there.

Will try to get a better picture, but this is looking up from the passenger side, just in front of the rear axle.

There are 3 hoses and 1 electrical plug to disconnect and 2 bolts to remove the assembly. There is a small tab that helps hold the bracket/entire assembly in place to install the bolts and remove the hoses/plug. As soon as I started to remove the hoses, carbon pellets started dropping out which tells me it was a good move to just go ahead and sort it out now.

The 2 fuel tank hoses have the same style connector. Zoom in on the assembly and you will see the ring around the tube that the connector latches onto, thus not allowing the hose/tube to back off. Have to get a flatblade screwdriver x 2 to release the tabs and pull it off. Easier said than done in the tight space. The electrical plug is a standard GM tab and pull it back.

The final hose had a different style clip that I just could not get figured out. Has a blue squeeze tab, that you are supposed to push in with 2 fingers, release from the ring and pull off. I tried every which way I could fit my hands in there and ended up cutting the nub off the old assembly to get it off. Then I can dig out the remnant end from the clip without the big canister in the way.

You can see from the picture where I cut the end off.
fullsizeoutput_82cd.jpeg

So thinking I was done, I tried to pull the assembly down between the exhaust as it turns over the top of the axle and the rear axle. No way in hell that thing was coming out. Out came the jack and jack stand, and up she went about a foot or so and then back under to pull the assembly out.

I snaked it out while dropping carbon pellets on the ground. I ran out of time tonight to move forward with reassembly due to family duties. Not complaining as watching my daughter competition dance training is truly special. Going to give that bracket a quick scratch and rattle can tomorrow, since it is off the truck. Swap the hoses off the old unit onto the new unit and blow out the hoses from the engine bay down to the fuel tank to make sure and get all those pellets out.

That should rectify the code and the slow fuel filling that has recently cropped up. To be continued with reassembly.

Mission completed this morning on the evap system parts replacement.

I did a quick wire brush and rattle can spray to the bracket since it was out before reassembly. I was able to safely remove that blue pinch release clip and nub that I cut off from the old evap canister. Not sure I would have gotten that damn clip to cooperate and release had I not cut the nub from the canister. For some reason it would not release last night. It required both sides to be pushed in to release the grip on the raised lip which kept the clip from pulling off. Anyways, no harm to the clip or existing hose and it reinstalled back in place perfectly. Either way it was a win.

I opened the vent canister solenoid and went to remove the media inside. It just disintegrated in my fingers. There is nothing wrong with the vent canister itself and I suppose you could just replace the media and save yourself a few dollars. I went ahead and installed the new unit.

I also noticed that the passenger side air line from my Airlift 60742 bags had melted to the exhaust! I gently peeled it off and tie wrapped it to the body above. It doesn't look like the integrity was compromised, but not sure how it didn't melt all the way through.

With everything removed, I wanted to see how many more pellets would come out of the line when I blew it out. There was already a lot that had tipped out of the canister when I started to remove it, so I knew the system had some in the line. I taped a nitrile glove on the end and crawled back out to the engine bay. I know it seems redundant, but going to all this effort with 3 new parts and I wanted to confirm victory that the line was indeed clear.
:rockit:

I hit the gun and pellets flew out the hose at me on the engine bay side. Of course I did not put a firm grip to make it airtight for that reason. I climbed back under the truck and the glove was slightly inflated and there were pellets inside too. I removed the glove and gave the line numerous blasts just to make sure it was indeed clear.

I swapped the bracket and hose over from the new unit, then jacked the passenger side up just enough to get a jack stand under there on the lowest height and create some clearance above the rear axle. This was a key move that I should have done last night. It took a few choice words and a hose clamp cutting into my wrist to realize the lack of spacing issue. Doh!!

The assembled unit slid up into place and 2 x 13mm bolts secured the bracket to the body. I clipped the electrical plug in and the 2 other plugs to the evap canister. One from the fuel tank and one from the vent solenoid.

Double checking that all was hooked up, I started the truck, drove around town and put some fuel in at WOT on the nozzle and no codes or issues presented itself. I'd say that's a winner for this round.

2 clips with this style release.

My dad just picked up a new 2020 Sierra 1500 Denali. He is loving that 6.2L (stepped up from a Sierra 1500 5.3L), power running boards, new Multipro tail gate, C bar headlights (I pointed out to him that Sierra was by the amber so he would see the detail lol nerd alert), head up display. Looks like his color is Dark Sky Metallic based on his description. He doesn't get into the details like we do lol...but the old man is riding in style.

5/16 x 1 stainless steel carriage bolts from Lowes.

3 coats of primer, top coat and clear coat.

What do you guys think? Better with color matched carriage bolts that fit in that square cut out perfectly or without?
Thx @BADRIDES

No bolts, square holes are visible.

I think it looks good. 1 of those small details that no one will notice except for a TYF member :D

Bumper bolts installed. Good and bad things about the carriage bolts and the square cut outs on the bumper. A little slop in the square hole and how much of the square part of the bolt that sits through the bumper itself. I tried nylon nuts and lock washers with regular nuts. There was still a tiny gap that would not secure it to the bumper.

Off to the miscellaneous screws/bolts box. Found a nylon washer to put on the back of the bumper that had a big enough hole to fit over the square of the carriage bolt and eat up the gap, then another smaller washer and nut to secure it tight. Voila!

So the small detail color match project is
completed.

My junkyard findings, yielded 2 Escalade shifter handles that were very cheap. Both are in pretty good shape other than one of the leather handles is pretty beat up. I figured one would be a good fit and a spare for so cheap wasn't worth passing up.

Perfect plug, wire, stalk and handle. I gave them a solid APC clean and was able to use a razor blade to peel the chrome off the one handle end that was already peeling off. It is literally just chrome tape FYI, just in case I wanted to paint it.

I decided to give the NBS Escalade shifter handle swap out a go. Hold your NNBS comments. lol I know, it's different and I wanted to see how it looked with an NBS Escalade shifter and be a direct wiring harnesses swap. As well as keeping it in the NBS tradition and be a bit different. Why not? It's only an LS with some Escalade parts for show, ammaright?

The tow/haul ass light works and I am pretty happy with how it looks. The chrome end ring is not too bad and picks up a bit off the stereo trim. The stalk looks great and the leather handle has a tiny bit of wear, but after a solid cleaning and Lexol conditioning, it feels great in the hand.

Pretty happy with this little touch to the interior.

Wish I had just welded my plate holes when I was painting it. Oh well. Bolts definitely look better than open square holes that’s for sure
