Because some websites say yes and others say no

Well, why wouldn't they work? What brands are you looking at?

you are talking a short wheel base versus a long wheel base
for sure you can do tahoe/yukon and yukon xl/suburban, but maybe not swb/lwb (maybe)
then you have to consider if it is 2wd/4wd/or awd like the escalade, escalade esv, denali, denali xl
