So I just locked the keys to my 2015 Yukon XL in the car...while it was running.

I didn't think it was supposed to be able to do that?

Anyone else have this happen before?

App is free, onstar is a subscription....paid monthly and depending on which plan you get about $30-40 a month. Newer trucks may give you 5 year subscription but my '13 tahoe only came with 6 or 8 mths

Mine was for 6 months when I bought my 16 Hoe last October.

In the end I decided to keep the lowest basic one [about 20 bucks a month] in case I get locked out or need roadside assistance on one of my long trips..Also you have maintenance reminders and the monthly diagnostic report..All that makes me feel better when I travel alone..But that is just me.

I have a 2013 avalanche, and got 5 years of basic free (saw it online and had to ask for it). Great app. New ones get 5 too, but 11-13 now only get 3 years...

Very weird right.... it happened to me with in a few weeks of getting the truck. I had left my keys and phone inside the truck. I had it running, I got out the truck to go and clock out. Came back and it was locked. I had to called my wife to bring spear remote. Very weird and has never happend again.

OnStar/Cadillac app is AWESOME. While I have yet to ever lock my keys in my car I love being able to cool down or heat up my car while out of range of my remote. Plus I have people that need things out of my truck when I'm miles away and I can unlock and lock it without the worry of leaving it unlocked all day.

I have it now for tracking, after my 2006 Yukon XL was stolen. I got 15 months free after the 4G upgrade. This was special case though.

Yes, I was surprisingly able to lock my keys in my car the other day. I used the OnStar app - I don't think you need a subscription for the keyfob commands to work. I let my subscription lapse and those commands still work for me. I tried them just now.

Correct, you get the bare bones features free for the first five years which includes using the fob commands on the app and the monthly status report on the truck.

For those of us that don't have/ don't want onstar...

I keep my ignition key on a separate little quick-disconnect key ring from my fob and other keys. Then, I just leave the key in the ignition, grab the others, lock the doors and do my thing. I have had older cars with alarms that would automatically lock the doors once the ignition was on. This mostly happened in the driveway but was still a pain. It was also great for warming things up without the risk someone else driving away with my vehicle.

Once when I locked my keys in my truck. I was stuck in the middle of BFE hunting. I'm talking a pretty remote place. It would have been miles walking distance from the nearest town. It would take someone a long time to find me, if they could.... I do not have AAA. (AAA would have been useless in this situation) And my subscription with Onstar was long gone.

I actually called Onstar and they were nice enough to help me. They unlocked my truck as a courtesy.

Funny, i was thinking same, my wifes cousins came up to ny from tx and locked keys in their suburban, i called onstar because my truck still had it and they took the vin of the suburban and unlocked it.

On all my cars, I hide a magnetic key somewhere. Tougher to do on newer unibody cars, but I find a way. I haven't done it on the new Tahoe as they only gave me 2 of those fancy keyless keys.

Does anyone know if I can take out the metal emergency key part and have a basic key cut out of it? Or is that just impossible? On my wife's last car, I hid the valet key. The new Tahoe didn't even come with one of those.
