Knock sensors

So I had a buddy I work with buy some knock sensors, harness, and a few other parts for his Tahoe motor about a year ago and never got around to installing them. I have already checked and they will fit mine, but the question is should I test them to make sure they are good, or throw them in and wing it? If so, how do I test them!

If they are brand new, then they should be fine. If you are unsure, just go ahead and buy new ones from Rockauto. They are not terribly expensive.

I'd stay away from these. On my 01' 5.3, of course you realize you'll have to remove the entire intake and fuel rail to get to these. Don't forget the blue RTV either to prevent future wear. Its a bit of work to get to where they are and there are a couple of other items in the area that you may want to pay attention to if the knock sensor need attention. If you look at what came stock(AC delco sensors and harness) and the price difference, I was told not to waste/risk the time on made in China sensors for our GM truck. Either they fail early or misinterpret. I never had any issue with AC Delco parts I'll pay a few bucks extra for all the hard to reach, and other inacessable sensors in this area, new oil pressure switch, clean some engine grounds up, pressure cleaned fuel injectors, and the intake with B12, throttle body hand cleaned. etc so while doing all that didn't want cheap parts to cause me to have to do all that rework in order to save $40. Especially since the original issue is moisture related to that harness and sensor wiring. I wouldn't want anything to fail within a couple of years because of cheap Korean parts. I did mine to get rid of knock code on my MIL about 5 months back.

Why "Knock" parts manufactured in other countries? Your brand new car has more of shore parts in it than you suspect. Hardly any parts come from US manufacturers Most are made in other countries and branded here if they have an American sounding name. Look at the fine (very fine Print) stamp on it. Delphi is actually AC Delco's lower priced brand. A lot of the OEM parts on our vehicles are Delphi.

Wrong. Here's my AC Delco knock sensors waiting to be installed. Made in Mexico. Not that it matters anyway, OEM parts are made all over the world nowadays. Edit: that's my oil pressure sending unit! My ACDelco knock sensors...also "assembled in Mexico"!

Delphi is actually AC Delco's lower priced brand. A lot of the OEM parts on our vehicles are Delphi.

Delphi was originally intended to be the "over the counter" GM parts mfr. Delco parts were for the factory. Guess who ended up making tons of parts for Delco? Yup, Delphi. Many parts will have an OEM number for both Delphi and Delco.

Me too. The Delphi knock sensors were about $10 cheaper apiece but like mentioned earlier they're buried pretty deep and Im not taking any chances. Plus I'm installing a blower at the same time so I'm really not taking chances. I'm not pulling my Whipple to get to faulty knock sensors (or oil pressure sending unit or valley cover gaskets or intake gaskets either) lol.
