04 Tahoe Got my cluster and climate controls back...

They are all perfectly lit, and works well!

Very clean cluster you have. That orange is pretty unique. Can't say I've seen that before.
Any plans to redo your steering wheel controls and the other controls possibly from another vendor?

I see 4 gauges in the 4th pic that appear to be not zeroed correctly. The speedo, voltmeter, engine temp and oil pressure. Those needles should be at the min. spot of the range not below. Doublecheck by turning key on and then needles should bounce then goto min point range of each gauge.

Who did your gauges? Planning to do amber color myself and change all the interior lights that color such as steering wheel and window switches etc. I'll be doing those myself though. Who did your cluster?

My cluster is constantly turned off and won't light up unless i tap on the plastic cover...on my way home from work last night i tapped on it a little too hard and cracked the plastic cover

Is this a known problem or is my tahoe possessed lol???

Do you mean the complete display doesn't work or just the digital display part of it?

Sorry i wasn't clear, i've been working 3 days straight. The digital display that shows the mileage and what gear the truck is in is what i meant

Your issue sounds like the resistor. The solder weakens and it dims or darkens the PRND123 and DIC info.
I knows there's a topic on this forum about which exact pin to resolder but I'm on mobile and can't find it easily.
That's why when you tap it makes a better connection and comes back. It's an easy fix though if you find the topic.

Thanks for the info brother, I'm actually removing the cluster to solder in new blue LED bulbs, i'll look and see if something came loose while i have it apart

I just did this repair a week or so ago. You won't see anything visibly loose, but reflowing the solder on the surface mount resistors brought back my display. I found a few youtube videos that weren't well filmed, but had enough information to point me in the right direction. I posted the links for them (and other lighting repairs I did at the same time) in this thread:

And do they come out pretty easily like the dash, i.e. remove the trim ring, unscrew the HVAC unit and unplug the connector on the back?

If you have the regular slide control hvac units, then yes, simple. I'm not sure how the digital controls come out tho. I'm sure they can't be too difficult.

No plans of yet to do the other ones. The climate control and cluster were the most important to me. I kinda gave up on the steering wheel controls, I did not do the conversion when I put the new radio in. I rarely use that stuff so I didn't see the need to spend the extra time and money. The other stuff lights up pretty well.

The HVAC controls come out VERY easy. They unscrew like the radio and just unplug. There are tons of videos showing the removal on YouTube. You just unsnap the trim around your dash and you are almost done.

Once I plugged it in they worked great! Love them!
