My HD hood and Esky vents should be done at the painters this week. I decided to give the rest of the paint a detail since she has been off the road for the last month. It turned into a bigger project than I anticipated once I started polishing away.
The roof was pretty bad as you can see from the test patch. Nobody likes doing that much real estate with those fins and it is a pain to reach, even with a step ladder. I ended up pulling the Esky roof rack to make sure and get the entire roof. While I had everything out, I went ahead and polished out the windows to get rid of the water spots as well. What a world of difference that makes. I also dressed the engine compartment with some 303.
This is the process I followed:
1. Wash.
2. Clay bar.
3. Wash.
4. 3M™ Perfect-It™ Rubbing Compound (PN 06085/06086) for the roof due to the oxidation.
5. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound Automotive Finish Restorer.
6. Meguiar's Ultimate Polish.
7. Surf City Garage Shine Nano Glaze.
8. Surf City Garage Nano Sealer.
Working on the roof.
Using AquaTech Water Spot Remover on the windows.
I used it with the DA and in the tiny spots, used my fingers and a microfiber. Finished with Rain X.
First test patch on the roof at night, which sent this project into overdrive the next day.
Small square test patch and a bigger square close to the passenger door. Really shows you how bad your roof actually is if you haven't given it a proper detail. Looks shiny, but hides the oxidation, especially at night under a bright LED light.
