Hi all,
I just picked up a 2013 Chevy Tahoe LT last weekend as my wife's daily driver. My question is, do I buy a programmer to disable the AFM or should I let it ride?? The Carfax was great, oil change at the dealer every 5K miles and a trans flush at 45K. It's in near perfect condition and I'll continue to keep it up but I do have concerns that the motor will eventually fall victim to AFM. Also, if I do shut it off are there any concerns that doing that itself will cause more problems?

I'm not concerned gas with mileage as it will only be driven about 600 miles/month.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

A lifter can fail even if the system is turned off but generally speaking, since it's not working, it should last longer. You can always physically remove the components and then you'll have Gen III reliability with Gen IV durability.

this hypertech runs about $300 new, you can even pick up a used one much less then pay like $80 to have it reprogrammed online if it hasn't been put back to stock

So generally speaking do you think I'm better off shutting off the AFM? I just don't want to do more harm than good.

I guess what I'm asking is will I harm the lifters or cam etc. by leaving it off all the time?

you can pick up that hypertech used off ebay and already reset for about $160, there are a several other brands out there as well that will do the exact same thing.
