Suggestions on towing a Tahoe

Oh and here is a picture of the Tahoe in question. It's an older picture though, it's not this nice anymore. This picture was taken in 2007 at my brother's funeral. Since then the wheels are gone, (now has 07 Tahoe 17" stocks) dents and scratches and even key marks all over, and most recently a minor front end collision. The SS bumper and grill are now gone and so are the the projector headlights and turn signals. And the guy who did the body repair did an absolute shit job. The hood doesn't even close properly, and the radiator support is still all bent up. I never could figure out where my late brother got those projector parking/turn signals from. It's the only set I have ever seen, never seen anyone else with a set.

Thats more work than I would do, but you're a bit more versed than I in electronics.

If it were my truck, or car, for the time and wanting to do it right, I would just get a hauler.

If I can find someone who will rent me a hauler that is big enough to fit the Tahoe on, then I will probably end up going that route. So far, I can only find places like Uhaul and they only have trailers designed for transporting cars.
And the tail harness actually isn't difficult at all. Just get a cheap trailer wiring harness from Harbor Freight or somewhere, and I will open the driver's door and run it across the inside the truck. It's only temporary, so I don't even have to mount it or anything, just run it across the seats. Then pop each tail light off and plug in the bulb sockets that I mentioned and then that's pretty much it.

They are supposed to have a bigger / longer one at some locations. I know where I am they have some. But I ususally borrow my friends Tractor hauler for moving cars. I think for what you want to do with it, and the uncertainty of what might be wrong with it, I wouldn't risk towing it with any wheels on the ground.

That's why we wanted to keep it in the family. It was my brother David's pride and joy. He did a LOT of work to it, including the Denali rear bumper, running boards, and lower body kit, and the Street Scene SS style bumper cover and grill inserts. David actually sold his wheels to a good friend just weeks before his death, and this good friend insisted that we put the wheels back on the Tahoe for the funeral, which is what we did. We all decided that rather than sell the Tahoe and split the money from the sale, that our youngest brother Dennis should take possession of it, mainly because he had no vehicle at the time. But he didn't know much about vehicles, and I live over 6 hours away from him so I can't help him with every little thing, so he ended up neglecting the truck over the last 10 years.

If it were me, I'd rent a dolly, unbolt and strap the driveshaft up (or remove it and wrap the tailshaft if you feel better about that), and get one of those magnetic tow light kits from Harbor Freight.

Your brother did a good job on it. Even though it's an older pic that truck would still be considered current on this forum.. Guys are still running Big Homies wheels. All clean mods.

I would personally rent a truck and dolly from u- haul and beat them up bringing it home.

Possibly. Depends on what we decide to do with it. If it goes to my son, it will probably be just brought back up to standards as a reliable daily driver. If it becomes my second vehicle or project vehicle, then yes I will probably end up doing all sorts of shit to it, even stabbing a new engine in it. Although it does run and runs "ok" , it has well over 300k miles on it and it's the original engine so I know it's tired and worn out.

Its hard to find a rental hauler for a 1/2 ton+ truck/suv. They are usually too wide for most of the rental dollies too. Id use one of those made to clamp to the towed vehicles bumper and pull driveshaft and make sure the rear of the tranny is very well plugged off. They make a towing plug to go into the tailshaft of the tranny to keep your fluid from going everywhere.

why not just pay some one to transport it for you on a trailer. you should try the online quotes and see who offers the cheapest in that area.
