So I just bought a 2008 tahoe and the driver door was out. Today the passenger door went out, I had already spec'ed out the speakers and decided to just grab something similar at Walmart. It took less than an hour and a half all in all.
To pull the panels you have 3 bolts, the upper lock plastic, and the triangle inside the side-view mirror. There's two plastic covers over the 10mm bolts both removed easily with a small flat-head. The panels come off with a good tug, be careful on the top side near the lock mechanism this clip is easy to break.. ask me how I know.
I then pulled the broken speakers out and stepped on them, face down, on the magnet of the speaker and this broke the speaker out. I then cut the foam out and clipped the two wires. It leaves you with something like this:
I tried to break everything off except the wiring plug.
I set the speaker over the housing on the foam and pilot drilled three holes:
You can see where the screws came through here:
I then soldered the wires to the oem plug:
Final product:
And so far they are a huge improvement over the oem speakers. I plan on doing a similar install on the rear soon. I wanted to keep the head unit the same for now.
