So I just bought a 2008 tahoe and the driver door was out. Today the passenger door went out, I had already spec'ed out the speakers and decided to just grab something similar at Walmart. It took less than an hour and a half all in all.

To pull the panels you have 3 bolts, the upper lock plastic, and the triangle inside the side-view mirror. There's two plastic covers over the 10mm bolts both removed easily with a small flat-head. The panels come off with a good tug, be careful on the top side near the lock mechanism this clip is easy to break.. ask me how I know.

I then pulled the broken speakers out and stepped on them, face down, on the magnet of the speaker and this broke the speaker out. I then cut the foam out and clipped the two wires. It leaves you with something like this:

I tried to break everything off except the wiring plug.

I set the speaker over the housing on the foam and pilot drilled three holes:

You can see where the screws came through here:

I then soldered the wires to the oem plug:

And so far they are a huge improvement over the oem speakers. I plan on doing a similar install on the rear soon. I wanted to keep the head unit the same for now.

Man I wish I would if done it this way it looks so much better. Well I guess I can still do the rears like this haha.

Just sucks how much power is lost with aftermarket speakers

These are actually more potent than oem speakers. Im extremely impressed. They were super sensitive at first but finally mellowed out and are really nice. A little to strong on the tweeter but you can dial some of it out.

Oh, yeah these are super low power speakers basically made to replace oem's. that may be part of it.

Kudos for a clean install and SOLDERING and using the factory plug. Little extra effort is not lost on me!
