2021 Tahoe commercial 5.3. The sound isn’t there when I first start it, when the engine kicks down idle, it’s a whoosh sound that seems to be a belt or pulley issue, but when I took it in to have to looked at, I was told it’s the fuel pump, and it’s normal. Is it? Do all tahoes have this sound? I’ve never heard this sound before in any car and I can’t understand how or why a fuel pump would sound like that normally. I’m running 93 octane and some Lucas fuel system cleaner to see if that quiets it down.

Is this normal? I didn’t get it in my 2019, 2015, or 2008.

do you hear this from inside the cabin or when you are standing outside of the vehicle? and have you been able to replicate this on video? may help diagnose what it could be coming from.

I can’t get it recorded. I only really hear it from inside the cabin, not under the hood. It really sounds like bad belt or pulley, but I figured it would be more pronounced under the hood, which is exactly the opposite.

seems odd but you could confirm the dealer synopsis by connecting a scanner and monitoring fuel pressure and fuel rail pressure when the idle drops and see if it is indeed happening as they say.
personally I don't see how you could hear the fuel pressure unless you have bionic ears (or the pump makes audible noise), it would seem more likely you are hearing the rotational parts slow down or perhaps the fans, vacuum pump or something

He was so sure it was the fuel pump. I “test drove” Other Tahoe’s and suburbans near the same year 2021+ and didn’t hear it. Odd thing is, he didn’t tell me it was faulty, it was normal. I can’t imaging hearing that noise as an engineer and saying, ehh, no one will notice. I don’t have a scanner currently, sold my old crappy Autel, but I should get something newer.

Is this while parked only or only while driving, I ask because that bumper in your photo or any other non oem accessories will create artificial noise from the wind that are not present with a stock setup.
things like aftermarket mirrors, bug shields etc can do the same.

you could always get a "second opinion" at any gm dealer or any shop with brains.

I had a bug guard on one my trucks once and if you blind folded someone and had them ride with you anything above 50mph would sound like it was raining cats & dogs outside, it was the craziest thing....

That’s my 2019, I didn’t hear it with that truck. This is a 2021. Nothing on the front. I can only hear it at idle because when I drive, the sound gets drowned out, but I’d guarantee it’s still there because when it comes to idle again, I can hear it.
