My son just bought a 2001 Tahoe 5.3 with 115K. It's been garage kept for 17 years by a seasonal resident of Florida and great shape cosmetically. We were doing some preventative maintenance and removed the plastic rear belly pan (dog bone shaped?) this was on the top and fell out. Does anyone recognize where it may have come from? He will be joining the forum soon.

if it came out of the inside it could be the remnants of the factory sub woofer if it had one, drivers side rear panel with the "grill holes in the plastic"

Thanks for the input & questions.

The unknown round piece is plastic.

I don't know the correct name of the "belly pan", but it similar to the plastic skid plate that angles up to the front frame. This pan is aft of the front one. May be called a skid shield. The next time the truck is here I'll get a pic of the shield.

The broken round part was laying on top of this shield. It might not be from the truck but bounced up there from the road. I just thought someone may recognize it so we can replace/fix if it's from the truck.

The plastic "rear" belly pan threw me off, those are are just skid plates most are plastic but the z71's had a aluminum one.
that kind of looks like it might have been a piece of a rubber boot from a front axle but that's my best guess, otherwise it's not something you would need to worry about and was probably either accidentally left there or fell there.
It's not something that came off or fell off of anything else

I too originally thought it looked like a deteriorated speaker surround. I came to think that something that is in that area is the fuel tank, and could that be some remnant of the fuel pump gasket?

Thanks for the input. Since it wasn't easily identified and we didn't find anything missing in the area, I'm thinking it didn't come from the truck. My son was here over the weekend so I took a picture of the skid plate (my '03 does not have this plate under the front diff) and a couple more of the plastic ring. Thanks again.

It could be something a mechanic dropped down there while working on the vehicle.

Looks like a grommet from a firewall to protect something from chafing. Coolant, fuel, a/c, harness, etc or …
