Forgive me if you already know this. GM used Torque To Yield (TTY) Head Bolts. These bolts can only be used once, they stretch as they are tightened. Anyway, that guy knows so much that isn't so. He's full of pride too and probably broke. He should have offered to make things right even if he didn't have the dollars to do so.
I know they are tty and so does he. I guess there is alot of people who do budget ls trubo builds and they reuse head bolts all the time and just copper spray the headgaskets and reuse them as well and apparently they dont have issues.

That's one helluva risk tho. All that work wasted if and when it pops. Crazy.

Yeah your right. Reusing the stock rod bolts because i was short on time and didnt plan on taking crank out when we did heads and cam is what i think is causing the metal in my engine right now so its on borrowed time. Again i should have stuck to my gut.

On the bright side in a month or two or whenever i feel like tackling the job of pulling the motor out of the yukon again ill have a fresh built 6.0 with ported heads and a cam.

Yea.... my wife is pissed. She yelled at me and said you knew better and you basically wasted 4k with parts and tune plus a few late nights. Shes the one who said the next motor for the yukon your taking to a engine shop. I said you sure we are looking at $2600ish plus another tune "$500". She said just get it over with lmao.

Did you use break in oil with the cam swap?

If you replace any bearing in the engine, break in oil, break in period and change the oil after the break in.
What is the break in procedure? I see some places recommend running it at a certain RPM for about 30 minutes but I though that was more for flat tappet cams

Update.

1k oil change there is still metal dust "needle point sparkles" in oil, I took the filter apart and found 13 ball point pen flakes in the paper filter. Zero noises its quieter then before top end build actually. So im just going to continue to run it untill it becomes a problem

Update.

Wont know till I open up the motor and i honestly want to put that off as long as possible because its a pain getting the motor out by your self. If it was in my mustang or something similar i would have already pulled it.

sucks you are having issues but it doesnt necessarily sound like your friend is to blame, I would do a couple more oil changes and see if the flakes clear up...some small flakes are normal after a rebuild...I have reused bearings, rod bolts and main bolts on multiple builds and never had a problem....the pic of the 1 bearing you posted looked like it was in great shape and definitely reusable, also the rod bolts and main cap bolts are all reusable on the LS motors, as long as they were torqued properly they shouldnt be the cause of any problems

Just watch oil pressure and if it drops suddenly stop and get it towed home before something really bad happens. Buddy just had a stroker lose oil pressure and he shut it off within seconds. Crank is toast but block and everything else is good to go which is decently lucky.

Any updates on this?
I put another 450 miles on it and no noises so far. Its not my daily so it takes me awhile to put miles on it. I use it when i pull my trailer mostly and i take it to my second job on Saturdays that's only 3 miles up the road.

Ive done a few wot with hp tuners logging it hits 95psi and never drops below 40psi. Attempted to take on a srt8 Grand Cherokee you can guess how that ended i let off at 120 he was a bus ahead and still pulling lol.

Im looking at a f350 v10 this weekend to use as a tow rig so then i can sell forester and use yukon as a daily.
