Updating Navigation Disc?

I am thinking of buying the new GM 20940248 nav disc for an update. Has anyone done this? If so, did it make any difference in the maps?

I started another thread with my opinion that the GMC nav is a pretty poor/mediocre performer compared to a Garmin: inaccurate info, early/late turn commands, can't call out street names, doesn't tell you that you missed the turn and it is recalculating another route, etc., etc., etc. I went on a month long driving vacation and after the GM nav got me lost the fourth time I ended up leaving my Garmin on full time. No problems after that.

I sent them an email a few weeks ago and asked them if they were going to try and improve the functionality or just add/update streets.

Their answer: just adding/updating streets.... so it will remain a second rate nav system.

Example when I had both going:

Garmin: in one quarter mile take Deerford off ramp south then bear left to Highway 2 south.

GM nav: in one quarter mile turn right then turn left. beep beep!

The Nav 5c took me to a bridge that was no longer there. I had to take a large detour.

gm nav always throws me in the wrong direction by the turnpike and tries to make me go up one ways -__-

Latest disc has done me well so far. Same with my mom's Escalade.

I always use the Nav as a TOOL more than a complete solution. Plan ahead, know your route, and use the Nav as a tool to stay on track, avoid certain areas, or find POIs.

I drive to a LOT of new places for work all the time. I will typically get the Latitude and longitude of the place I am going using a map program. Then enter the coordinates into the Nav. I know the basic route I want to take, and then let the Nav guide me to the exact location.

I dont know. A nav system is only as good as the data entered into it. Do I trust it all the time, no, is it helpful, absolutely, is the GM better than garmin, not from my experience with both.
