I have just completed the intake gasket change and now I can't get the timing right. (or so i think it's timing) The truck ran fine before the gasket change.
It starts and runs fine when cold. It has gobs of power, currently no pinging and no "out one tooth" code.
Now, in saying that...all is fine until the truck reaches operating temps. then i can't shut the thing off or it possibly won't start.
I've jumped the distributor one tooth advance and retard and I can't get it any better than where it is...I can make it diesel on key off and on stabbing the throttle and I can make it backfire, currently, I have it in the middle and it runs great...just won't hot start!
Is there any way to definitively tell where I'm at with timing on these trucks?
Or is there some other problem? (like leaky injectors)
