Trouble installing aftermarket front monitor.

I recently attempted to install a Clarion max685bt head unit in my 07 Yukon. I am using metra dash kit, PAC O-S4 wiring, and the rear monitor cable (cant remember the name but it was PAC).

The main wiring harness appears to be hitting the back plastic piece and cannot tell whether the others are hitting. I am short about a 1-4" I think.

Is the Pioneer everyone is using have a better placement of harnesses? The measurement from rear of deck to where the metra bezel piece is about 6 1/4" is this deck to deep for this install?

I am pretty experienced in stereo and audio/video installation but cannot seem to find a solution to this problem. Do I need to sell this deck and find one better proportioned for this vehicle?

Thanks for any input because im getting pretty frustrated.

Just installed my Pioneer z120bt today and I cut out all of the plastic behind the headunit, all the way accross. I just left the lower plastic in the back that goes across. I removed the three screws and tryed to use a sawzall but found it was easier to get some tin-snip type sheers and chop away at it. The plastic snaps pretty easy if you just bend it too.

It doesn't look like I would gain very much room removing the plastic because of the metal bar behind it. The main plug appears to be hitting about where the farthest left screw.

Good luck then, hope you don't have to leave your head unit sticking out past the dash too much. Mine was just enough room to fit nicely. I pulled all the wiring harness down into the area over the trans hump where you can take off those side access panels on the center console.

Did everyone have to cut the dash out even with other brands other than pioneer?

I will try to get some pics posted up tomorrow or monday so maybe someone can help me with exactly how much i need to cut out because i do not want to cut more than i have to. please check back if you think you can help me because i need it on this project.

Did you have to route wires around the bracing or was it just shallow enough?

I have the AVH-P3100DVD and while it fit without any RCA cables plugged in, as soon as I added a backup cam, amp preout RCA's, and AUX in I had to cut out the back. I would say I got another 3/4", makes the face sit more flush with the trim.

I got installed but had to modify the Metra kit a lot for it to work, it was still a tighter fit than I would have liked for it to be.

I used the PAC OS-4 and when I first plugged it in the dash cluster lights stayed on. I had to cut the orange wire in the PAC wiring to shut them off. Anyone else run into this problem? I also had to leave the illumination wire not wire or the stereo lights would stay on even with PAC orange wire cut, again did anyone else run into this problem?

I am kinda confused on what you are saying the lights are doing and not doing. I left my illumination wire off at first with my z120 because newer style radios don't dim like the factory and really old units. I found out that I needed to connect it because it controlled when my nav screen switched over to night mode. My guage cluster always stays lit up bright green during the day.

When the orange wire in the pac wiring was hooked up it kept my dash cluster lights when i cut the wire the cluster lights worked like they should. When I was trying to figure out why the dash lights wouldnt shut off I hooked up the illumination wire from the PAC to the tv (the PAC orange wire was still not hooked together) the lights to the tv stayed on. So to make the dash cluster lights and tv lights turn on and off like they are supposed to I had to have the PAC orange and the illumination wires both unhooked. I am just curious why the orange wire PAC had wired left on my cluster lights and why the illumination left the tv lights on. I have never seen wiring do this.

I was baffled to have to cut wires on the OS4 and tried everything to not have to. My friend tested out the plug with the orange wire and found nothing unusual but as soon as that plug was unplugged they shut off and the opposite when plugged in. I googled and found no other posts about this and have not noticed any adverse affects from it being cut but it just seems weird to have to cut the wire for the OS4 to work correctly.

I probably should have trimmed the plastic a bit but it didn't look as though I was going to gain enough to make a diff but the wiring harness on the tv is pushed against the plastic more than I would like so I might go back and trim it later.

The Metra kit had to be modified a bit to because the round nub that is there for placement kept it from going in square with the climate and bottom panel which made the plastic surround fit horribly. I am not sure why I had to modify everything to make it fit and work but I did go to a friend and have him look to so I know its not just my stupidity.

Nope I did not run into any of those issues when I installed mine. I just connected the orange illumination wire to the orange illumination wire on the Pioneer 4200DVD I installed and had no issues. The illumination functions work perfect after that.

So your lights work as they should? If not call Pac Tech support, they are great. A real person gets on the phone quickly, asks for a call back number, your name and then is ready to solve your problems. Even helped me with an install question related to my z120.

Im not for sure they would help me very much cut a few wires trying to figure out what was going on lol. I might call them though and see why lights were not working correctly since I seem to be the only person who had this problem.
Anyone have the problems with the Metra kit? It looks really good just had to be modified a lot.
