Saw a few YouTube videos on how to delete thermostat to keep trans cooler. Unfortunate my 18 Tahoe doesn’t have the ability to disconnect the lines at the thermostat housing like older models. Has anyone attempted this on the new setup?

Great. Did you just flip the plunger or tap and insert bolt? Also what’s the torque spec on those bolts?

I tapped mine like the video's show on youtube, I don't recall the torque spec it's not a lot that is all aluminum and it will strip easy, just take off the keeper bolt on the side where the lines enter and the lines will slide right out, then unbolt the thermostat and it comes off on the side there is a retainer clip, take off the clip and it comes apart

Ok. I have seen YouTube videos where people have just flipped the plunger and it slid into the area where the bolt would go.

ya I guess that is easier, should be a breeze once you have that snap ring off the internal part will slide out there is a spring and ball and stuff in there easy to misplace I would just open it over a clean rag or something, when you slide it back together double check that the snap ring is back into place properly it would suck if it popped out going down the road

ya that will drop the trans temps down about 15-20deg I went ahead and added a trucool 40k also and the combo has dropped the temps about 35-40 deg's
if the shutters are still enabled you might not see much difference at all with just doing the thermostat.

Oh ok. That’s the first I’m hearing about the shutters. So you don’t think doing the thermostat delete will have that big of an impact alone?

You should see some difference, I drive with a pretty heavy foot so I needed to do a bit more to get the temps down.
