Super high miles?

I am thinking about buying a 07 yukon xl. it is in great condition except for the miles. It is sitting at 323000. He is asking $5300. It was used for a limo service and maintained well. Are the miles too high? Should i keep looking? My current 04 Sierra is at 287000 but it is a pick up.

I don't know about the serviced and maintained well by a limo service part since I've seen my share of not so well looked after limo service vehicles. Some companies do take their time to service them, but some just do the bare minimum to keep them on the road making money.

My main concerns would be the engine and transmission, but if they check out okay on a test drive, that would take care of one big potential money pit. AFM has had long time to mess things up, but if it's gone 300K+ already, it might still go another 300K. Or maybe not...

If the engine/tranny work fine and the exterior/interior are good and all electricals (heat/AC, electrical stuff etc.) are up to *****, a five grand Yukon XL might be a good buy.

As long as you are not thinking you don't need to do anything to it. I'm sure you will still have to spend some money on it (suspension, eventual tranny rebuild and other incidentals).

I agree with tsuintx, all the limo drivers i know beat the hell out of theirs and maintence is a joke. Like he said tho, as long as you know what you are getting into, do it.

Unless I was willing and able to repair/replace major systems myself or devote another $5,300 into the vehicle within a year or two after buying it, I'd keep looking. That is, I'd consider upping my purchase price budget and acquiring something clean with lower miles, such as under 150k.

I always find it funny that people will say to raise your budget. I had no intentions of getting an 07 i was looking at 04 - 05 but this came up. My 95 suburban had over 420000 on it when i sold it and it is still running from what i know. I thought i would ask.

It's hard too qualify an answer to your question. 300K+ miles is a lot but if the vehicle has been serviced and you can guarantee that, then it's not really an issue. However, if you find a vehicle with 70K and hasn't been serviced and has been beat, it could be a money pit. It's your hard earned money.....

I wasn't really looking for a solid answer just a general consensus. At that price i had to take a shot.

it's a lot of miles there's a lot of wear on everything. I personally would look for something with less mileage. When I was looking for a hoe, I saw a lot with 100k on the clock for 28 to 30 k. to me that's a lot of money. when I saw my hoe with 70k on the clock for 21k I jumped on it , sure it wasn't an LT o r LTZ, but it's got a lot of character and low mileage which will last me a few years,

You buy that 300k truck, you are buying a bag of trouble.

Unfortunately, you can't look at it simply as an '07 for $5,300. You should expect to have to put money into it starting soon after you buy it. If not the two most expensive components-the engine and trans, there's all the little things that can easily add up to the same expense as them. It's not just the parts and labor, but also the hassle of always having it off the road to have something done to it. That'll suck the enjoyment out of it. You may end up putting a few grand into it and get it solid and reliable (well, seemingly reliable because at this point, there are no guarantees), but then you'll have $8,000+ invested into a ~350K-mile '07 that you may want to offload because you're tired of fixing it. You sure as hell aren't gonna get that money back, not to mention even less your initial $5,300 purchase cost.

Furthermore and personally, I'd feel better about buying a 323K-mile GMT800 than a 323K-mile GMT900. For $5,300, you can get a GMT800 with at least 100K miles fewer miles.

If you are seriously considering the 07 Yukon get all the service records and the name of the place where it was serviced..I always did that before I bought any used vehicle no matter what the mileage was..It probably save me a lot of headaches plus I had a independent put it on the rack and had everything checked in case I missed something.

What state in the US is this vehicle. If it's been all its life in snow and salted areas don't do it.

I agree with 08grey. If you are going to keep this truck or sink money into it like 90% of us on this forum, you don't want a car that will rust out in a year or 2. My denali was a flood car and it looked greally when I bought it, 2 months after the flood. But now I am seeing the damage. But I have spent too much to walk away from it now.

Word, lots of guys even dealers spay two cams worth of undercoat on under the truck and tell you it's mint. The dealer did it to me on my certified pre owned. First thing I ever did before any mods was strip it all off and por 15 the chassis. Luckily I had a friend with a lift and a sharp eye and he pointed it out to me right out the gate.

First thing I ever did before any mods was strip it all off and por 15 the chassis. Luckily I had a friend with a lift and a sharp eye and he pointed it out to me right out the gate.

I've known dealers and wholesalers who put gear oil in the motor instead of oil to quiet it up. Some really shady characters out there.

My 05 Tahoe had engine replaced at 208000 and trany just gave up at 240000 in total cost $9000 for OEM replacements (with my Hubbys employee discount) so be prepared to pay in excess of that if you need to replace.

I'm in the same situation, trying to get my girl a Tahoe and was thinking of sneaking in a high mileage 07 with around 200k miles or getting a previous gen with around 100-150k. Its really just going to be a back up in case my Tahoe has an issue. She has a car now we never drive and planning to do the same with her next one and since its so similar to mine, I wouldnt have issue with most replacements but terrified of that engine and tranny going. 300+k seems a little too much especially coming from a limo company. Maybe I would feel more confident if it was a private seller who really cares about his car. I am thinking 200k is a good area to aim at that is considered high mileage but really worth taking risk on. No matter which way you go, its always a risk.

I ended up with a 02 Denali with 185000 on the clock. I would have loved the newer body style but everybody was right it was too big of a risk.
