I bought a 2002 Tahoe about a year ago and the previous owner had put in an aftermaket stereo. However, it still has the stock tape cassette deck(right about the cd storage). I dont own any tape cassettes and even if i did it wont work with the aftermarket cd player. I was wondering what you all have done with this.

And while we re kind of on the subject, any ideas about the rear audio controls thats is on the back side of the center console. Any way of rigging that so it will work with my current cd player.

I would like to hear any input or ideas that you ve thought about doing or have done. Thanks

And if anyone is looking for one I would be willing to part with mine for cheap as long as i can figure out something to do with the hole

it's almost a single din and no "kit" to make a radio or eq work. If you cut it out correctly, the cage will hold it in place

My friend actually put a flip out monitor and wired all his screens to the video out put of it.. That way he could use his alpine deck separate... Dont know why but he just cut it a little and it slipped right in. Pull up the cup holders and alot of room for connections and what not then put them back in

I found little cubby for it at my local chevy dealer, it was 15.44, a guy on ebay wanted 30 plus 8 to ship. I also read on another forum that car install shops will carry these as well. It should be in today and then i can get it installed hopefully some time this week. Thanks for the posts and ideas

Any of you guys have trouble with the rest of your system working when you pull the tape deck out? I unhooked mine and the sound doesn't work now.

"puckhead" I dont know if my car had the c-deck or the cd player down there but def one of them since there is a gaping hole and original wirring harness in there. There was no stereo in the car when i looked at it the first time so I told the dealer to fix a cd player pref original. When the car was deliverd they had put in a Delco original with the cd player on the headunit and it works as it should with dimming and such and sound.

What im trying to say is there has def been something there in my car but not now and the stereo work as it should :)

Regards

For $26 go to your local Chevy Dealer and ask for the storage unit used in that spot. Take 5 minutes to install.

Hey guys I have an '05 Escalade ESV and my brother has my old '02 Suburban. The clown spilled his drink and it ran into the tape deck. LMAO so now it doesn't work. I am going to take the deck out to examine if it can possibly be cleaned/repaired. I'm not sure how the console works as far as getting the deck out. I know it's different than my truck. What's the procedure?

Its quick to take out, there are two screws to remove that are located in the cd storage compartment, after you take these two screws out the plastic cover will come off, be fairly gentle, there are two plastic tabs that keep it in place, i broke one of these when taking mine out(the good news is that when i put it back it stays put just fine still). Once you get there there are two tabs on the tape deck that you depress and the tape deck slides right out.

If you need more info on it or have questions dont hesitate asking.

If you cant get it cleaned or fixed let me know, you can have the one i pulled out for 15.00 plus shipping.

Okay sweet thank you I will let you know what happens upon further investigation. Also, I should have consulted you guys first but I figured it would be similar to my truck so I just tried to "pop" the piece out like mine do and I cracked one of the sides. Where would the best place be to get a replacement?

Well, if its a big enough crack that its going to bug him i would first try a junk yard to see if you can get lucky, there are two in my area where i live and sometimes they ll have things i need, f not i think your only other option will be going through a gm dealer to get that part ordered.
