I might buy an 09 hybrid that the seller says has a bad hybrid battery and doesn't start. Is it possible to hook up a trickle charger directly to the hybrid battery under the seat just so I can get it running?

if you're going to buy a broken one, factor in the price of a clone tech 2. used to be around d 250$ from China. no clue these days, but totally worth it. and that will allow you to us the jump assist function which uses a 12v 20amp charger to charge the 320v hybrid battery thru the under hood 12v battery.

they do sell direct chargers, you'll have to look them up there. the battery is 320v DC.

they sell them or there's a way to build one from a fluorescent light ballast.

just a note of warning, the hybrid will most likely needed replacement even if you get it to charge enough to get it running. they don't like have bad/weak batteries. factory in the replacement costs.
