Or my u-joints could be bad yet I only have 81k on the clock of my 08. I gotta check them for play next time.

My "U" joints are ok , looks I have to live with yoke play , already learned how to move from traffic stop , to avoid yoke clunk ...

Just nail it. The tire squeal will mask the yoke clunk.
And turn the radio up

Thing is, is the play in the yoke itself or is it in the ring and pinion? I noticed when I was torquing my lug nuts down the other day, I have quite a bit of movement but I do not hear any clunking sounds.

Gotcha, could be worth a try to get a new one. It may be a bunch of work and no reward but it could be your answer.
EDIT: but if you are planning on a U-joint swap, you could kill 2 birds....
