Removing Fog Lamp Bulbs and replacing with HIDs... PITA?

Last time I removed a set of these, it seemed like to be a royal pain in the a$$! Is there something that I am missing to make this easier? Going to be installing the wife's HID's into the foglamps and lows soon and I don't wanna run into this issue again.

Also, anyone had any issues with getting the HID bulbs to seat properly into the stock foglamp housing?

HIDs will melt your fog lamp assemblies... Just saying.

As far as getting into the fog lamps, you just have to pop the wheel liners out. It's relatively simple.

I would know, I just had to buy two new fog lamp assemblies, because mine melted... I didn't even get HIDs, I just put high-performance halogens in them, and they melted.

Don't bother Supercharged. They have a 70% chance of melting the fogs.
Also the fogs are pretty easy to access.

Been running HIDs in my fogs for 3 years with no melting issues, 25watt ballasts make them run much cooler.

Oh and I susally just pop the fogs out of the bumper and install hid bulb then just pop the whole housing back in. I used a HID with the 2505 base and had zero issues getting them to fit.

My ballasts are 35w. We don't run fogs all the time, just came with the kit.

Why not go with LED bulbs instead? They emit less heat and more light than halogen bulbs, plus don't require a ballast.

I have LED's in mine and there is absolutely NO light output from them especially if you have HID low beam's in the head lights. I want to change them to HID's because they will be brighter but don't want to melt the housings.

For as much as we use the fogs, I can't see spending the money to retrofit a projector into them. We might use the fogs for an hour, if that, when we are cruising through the backwoods to our NC house. Again, the kit I bought came with them and the 35w ballasts. I might drop down to 25w ballasts, well see. My buddy has the same setup with absolutely no issues as of this moment. I'm sure eventually they'll melt, but I'll deal with that when it happens.

So... Back to the topic, how do you remove those bulbs.

Pretty easy bulb to remove. Just take off the front portion of the inner-fender, and pull back enough to get hand in there. Then you can just push the tabs on both sides of the bulb, and it pulls right out. Plenty of room to stick a ballast down there if you have double sided tape.

I went with a 25W Ballast, and 25W Bulb. There’s a few companies out there that sell the combo. Some sell a makeshift 5202 kit that requires silicone and what not. I’d steer clear from them. I purchased from a supporting vendor here, but I’m waiting for them to fix some issues with their H11 kit. I’ll see how they handle this before I recommend or bad-mouth.

Really? It was a ***** to get my bulbs out. I didn't pop the whole housing out though like some people did. I just got on my back and looked up and pulled the bulbs out. Mine were just a ***** to get out for some reason...

the first set i did was like that Felix... which is why I was looking for a simpler solution. I dont want to remove the entire housing, but I will if need be.

We have hid's in our fogs and have not had any melting issues and have them on all the time, and my cobra has had them for 3years now and they are on everytime I drive it. Halogens put off more heat so I could see where they would melt them. Hid's were in the Yukon when we got it so sorry I can not help ya on that lol I may take a look tomorrow and post it up.

It's very simple, i just did mine on my z71 Suburban, push the taps and pull out no need to take out the fender liner or anything if you go underneath there is a lot of room for access down there. if you want some pics of where i mounted my ballast pm me i will snap some for you.
