When you remote start your Yukon or tahoe is it running in V4 or V8 mode?

Until the engine hits a high enough operating temperature, only V8 mode is permitted.
ECMs with V4 mode (DOD / AFM) only use V4 mode in 4th 5th or 6th gear.

Don't know about DFM engines with the seventeen different firing orders.
Safe guess that if it's a cold start, it's a V8 ... but once it gets warm enough ...

Okay i was curious because when i remote start my Yukon there is 0 engine noise. But if i leave my driver door open and press the ignition button to “start” the rest of the truck there is immediately a slight ticking coming from the engine. Almost like piston slap. Goes away after engine is driven for awhile. Just strange it starts as soon as the On button is pressed but not in remote start.

Check your exhaust manifold bolts to see if any have broken off. An exhaust leak on a cold motor can cause noise.
