I wouldnt trust autozone on two reasons

1) I called autozone and asked if they had a radiator for a 1972 VW Beetle and this is what they said and i quote "No we do not have it in stock, but we can order it." hopefully everybody knows except this autozone that VW beetles are famous for being air-cooled.

2) Friend called autozone for spark plugs for his 1986 C4 Corvette the woman on the other end asked "Who makes that?" He said "Chevrolet." then she asked "Is that a 4 or 6 cylinder?" he hung up the phone

any one else had any of these stupid responses from autozone?

With a bad economy, people are going to be working at stores (autozone) that they don't have expertise, just to put food on the table.

Give them a break and just do your research before you show up and that way you won't have any trouble

I dont go anywhere for anything without my part number in hand. I always research and make sure I am getting the right parts. You can't blame the people they hire but more the company. Funny thing is back in the day I would apply like every couple of months. I went to 2 interviews and was never hired. And I know everything there is to know really lol. I would end up seeing a girl who didnt know anything get hired. that was crazy

I didn't know beetles had no radiator =X

Also yeah, the guys who work at autozone are not ASE mechanics. They are just cashiers who look up stuff on the computer system and tell if they have it and where it is, and if not then how long it will take to order it for you.

Autozone has good and bad things about it. Yes they dont know everything and honestly they just cant know everything. Autozone is just plain awsome for one reason and that is because I can go 1/4 mile down the road and get almost any part I need for my truck if it is not some major work.

I agree but it takes training for the jobs you listed. Most have to go to school to have any job on that list. People with an abudance of knowledge in the auto industry will not waste thier knowledge with the pay that autozone offers. So they hire newbies and try and train them.

Your making fun of them because they dont know certain things that most gear heads know. Just because we have been in the game a while. Sure 80% of us know there are no pistons in a mazda rx7.. or if you pop a seal you can still drive it home. or how bad ass a 3 or 4 rotor engine can be.. But they try. They ask the series of questions the computer tells them to so they can locate your parts..

My deal is I don't make fun of people. And especially make threads about it. Just me.. end of rant

sorry

I don't think the people are to blame they are just trying to make money like a few others have said but, I personally don't like the autozone in my area for similar reasons.
They would hire friends/family or cute chicks before they hire someone who actually knows anything about cars and parts.

The last time I went there with my wifes car to get a code read they told me they don't do that on the weekend which is total b.s.! They were busy doing nothing and talking about the club they were going to that night. I left everything I planned to buy at the register and walked out. I haven't been back since and I bought my own code reader from somewhere else of course and haven't been back since (almost a year ago).

I have had some bad experiences at autozone. One chick couldn't cross a belt with the numbers. Thats easy to do, I worked at carquest for 3 years and did it all the time. My buddy called for some door hinge pins for a Chev pick up and when they asked him if it had dual exhaust he hung up the phone. I do understand that they are just reading questions that come up from the computer but come on... I will buy off the shelf stuff there if I have to but I usually go to Carquest or Napa, I usually get better service there.
