Howdy folks. Name is Sam - wife and I are looking at a 2013 Yukon XL Denali, but before we pull the trigger we're wanting to know more about what is 'under' the rear cargo area (behind the 3rd row seat) besides the spare tire? We're wanting to haul a bunch of gear, and we're going to need additional cargo hooks back there, and I'm just wanting to ask if anyone has ever had the carpet up behind the 3rd row seats and/or drilled through the floor...and what is under there, if anything, besides the spare tire?

Is it just sheet metal back there and no problem drilling through the floor and bolting in additional D-rings, or are there fuel evap hoses or electrical conduits or such that might get in the way?

Tried searching the forums for specifics about 'drilling through the rear floor' but came up short. Naturally we'll remove the spare tire before doing any drilling, but just looking for additional thoughts or advice before buying an entire machine only to find out additional cargo points are a no-go.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Cheers,
- Sam

Lol that's what the roof rack is for. If anything remove the third row and use those hooks. Cause truthfully there's not much more room for hooks back there. I guess you possibly put some in between if you lower the spare, and watch were your drilling. Or get a cargo net those are very useful.

There are 2 cargo hooks, one on each side, at the rear of the floor, just before the rear door. You should be able to install additional hooks as needed by drilling through the floor. It is easy to see the floor from underneath the truck, so you can plan your hook placements, in order not to contact anything directly underneath the floor.

Just out of curiosity, what the heck do you need to strap down back there? Are you doing some serious off roading?

...initially they'll be used as car seat anchors/tethers (the d-side seat has one but it's not centered, and there isn't one on the p-side, and we need both), but then when big enough hauling the family, lots of stacked gear, and the crawler (02 Dakota on 40s) out to the boonies, often with fairly 'aggressive' access roads - trying to prevent hurling stuff through the side glass...

Easies way is just climb under there and look up. There’s hoses and such, fuel tank, wiring harnesses etc. but plenty of places to attach stuff.
