lol yea id much rather have bought more parts for it ...but had i with my luck it wouldve dropped a valve and trash the engine too

said they can fix it. if i wanted to keep doing what im doing or turn it up more, i need to swap to a different guides and iconel exhaust valves...better springs..

which at that point i was ready just to jump up to the big boy heads and repair these back to how they were (cheaply). their f-series heads come with upgraded springs and guides. so the only added costs would be for the different valves but they have a raised intake/exhaust runner which means i would have needed to find more room to go up with the intake. more money, more power, but i dont think i can find the extra height.

would have been easier just to starrt with a fresh set of heads, but they're on backorder/sold out for a few months basically. so sending mine in was the fastest option

well same heads but starting with new is 3-4 months.

next step up with iconel valves was 4-6 weeks (had heads but had to wait for valves to get in) but no room to raise anything anymore

so anytime before that i shipped the heads out yesterday... said he had everything on the shelf ready to go, ***** paid for. shouldnt take any longer then it would to break them down, shave em smooth and reassemble them...only difference is replacing the guides, run em back thru the cnc i guess... hoping a week turnaround would be nice

A week turnaround would be great service right now. Most companies in the custom (as well as non custom) automotive world right now are months behind for whatever reason. Some of it is difficulty getting parts from suppliers, some are saying they’re just super busy because of so many people being laid off and having all kinds of time to finally start the projects they’ve been putting off for years (I don’t know where they’re getting the money though but maybe the government has been taking care of that) and some of it is the difficulty they encountered gearing up to work under Covid restrictions. I know in my case I was looking at getting my billet wheels reworked and they were looking at 4-5 MONTHS of turnaround where it’s usually 6-8 weeks, and the last time I had to send my trans in after I broke the output shaft they said they couldn’t even get a date on parts from Sonnax because that company was still completely shut down and had run out of inventory so I couldn’t get them to do an upgrade because the parts were unavailable. But that company, Performabuilt, rebuilt my trans in one day and shipped it out the next. And under warranty even though it was my fault it broke, and was out of warranty by about a year. They suggested we insure it through UPS because they said they had 4-5 transmissions go completely missing in shipment in the prior 2 months, never to be seen again. They said before Covid, UPS had never lost a single one. Something to keep in mind.

yep, thats is kinda what i assumed...i was going to just pay for a new set of heads with everything done figuring on it being 2+ months out. throw the ones i had ignorantly back on just so i wasnt dead in the water for the time being. but after looking into them they were just going to cause more headaches. got everything installed and set up with these figured it would be the easiest and they said everything was there ready to go so i got them out asap

i pulled the alternator to see if i could do down and forward, keep all the heat low but these run into the steering shaft coupler thingy. i ordered a different set that look like they put the vband on the collector about this short already but soso quality. not too concerned as i dont plan on mounting turbo right off of these.

still kicking around where to actually put the turbo

I'm prioritizing Feeding it cold air in getting a 5" down pipe out. I was thinking about putting it basically below the radiator Forward or sideways I could probably do either . But there's no good way to get a downpipe out other than through the bumper. Passenger side of engine Bay doesn't really feed fresh air to it. So my idea is to use an upgraded 28" radiator off to one side. Flex a lite makes 1with about a 3" thick core. And they have a fan shroud to put efans back on it. That gives me about 9" opening between the radiator and headlight on that side.

took some more stuff out of the engine bay, the hydroboost/power steering pump, brackets that hold it up.

been mostly just working on tracking down what i need to move/streamline ac hoses. i had ordered a few different suction hoses back when i first did the turbo to move it, never did, but i think i can use some of the fittings on them. i also ordered a new pressure hose from the condenser back that im going to try and straighten out and run how i want to run it- comes with new orifice also, and will prob order a new accumulator. im going to move the accumulator to the fender, all the hoses off the firewall are going to go to the fender, the suction hose that i have (the i also welded a barb on it) should be able to stay.

going to grab a battery bracket to mount it under in the back so i can put the ps pump on that side - that will shorten all the ps/hb lines and get them out of the way.

hoping HOPING all my temp issues will go away with complete head gaskets, the upgraded flexalite radiator is kinda spensive. it used to sit at 160 all day long before i started having problems.

also swapping to a different head gasket than the lsx, going to use the one with the hoops that bite into the head... pretty much guarantee the heads need to be refinished every time they come off but i hear thats what its going to take to run it turnt up all the time

i wish.... i do keep my taxable income low tho HOH and a dependent. i skirted just below the threshold last year for it, i maxed out 401k contributions which wasnt much more but just enough to stay under it this year i think
