If a rail strike happens, EVERYTHING will end up stopping. Food, coal, steel, finished goods, etc... i seriously doubt that if the strike happens the govt will let it linger on very long, as railroads carry everything. And the railroads are not likely to want to give up billions in profits for not running trains.

Yes trucking can haul those items as well, but they are under staffed as it is and dont have the manpower to pick up much extra from trains not running. It sure isnt going to be pretty if it does go to strike.
