I have only had my yukon for a little over 4 months now so I'm looking for some feedback on this. For those of you that have owned your hoe or yuk for awhile now, did you notice a slight or huge drop in your mpg during the colder months? When i brought my yukon from my brother- in- law the sender unit wasn't working(I have since replaced the fuel pump and it works now). He would drive 350 mi between fill ups. I would go 335-340. I starting noticing in Nov after getting the pump replaced in Oct that i could go 310-320 on a full tank. I no longer let it get to the point of my low fuel light coming on for fear of damanging the pump. I'm at 248 mi on this current tank and it has a little less than a 1/4 of a tank. Just got it tuned up last week with delco plugs and wires. Doing the seafoam treatment this weekend. It is normal to see that much of a drop in mpg during the colder months? I don't have my foot on the accelerator that often in case any of you were wandering. How many miles are you guys going on a full tank? Any of you Texas guys care to share? Im in the DFW area. Thanks

Also I have 265/75/16 tires on it, I seem to recall reading something about bigger tires lowering your mpg.

Man, I would think in the colder months your MPG's would go up as cooler air makes more power needing a little less fuel. Not sure tho. That a big difference.

you have to also account for warm up time and higher revs if your tires are spinning on snow or ice.

Also i am sure 4x4 would have a negative effect on MPG if you used it.

EDIT: just noticed you're in TX so i am sure you don't have much use for 4x4, and will never see snow or ice :p

I live just East of Dallas, it was in the teens last week and had ice one day. Very out of character for this area.

Multiple reasons for decreased mileage in winter. Gas blend in most states is less fuel effeicient, colder weather = longer warm up times (engine more efficient at operating temp) etc. Yes, cold air intake is usually equates to better power, but the engine temp still needs to be at it's operating temp to be most efficient. I personally see a minimal drop in mileage as our winter blend crap is counterbalanced by not using the AC units (both of them) running all the time in the summer (It gets to 115 routinely here). Lived in South Texas for years, and same issue, don't recall if they had "winter blend" gas, but I recall a few subfreezing winters there and mileage was crap.

+1 on this guy. Mine goes down a bit, but I also let it warm up for a few minutes caue it gets pretty cold up here. Are you letting it sit for a while? Any new mods that are making you a lead foot!?!? lol happened to me so just sayin

For the most part I let it sit for a few minutes before driving. I try to stay away from the lead foot and find myself having lead foot not very frequently. I will do a can of seafoam this weekend through my tank. just got a tune up last week and from what i have read it looks like i should have done the seafoam before the tune up through the TB. Don't want to foul up my new delco plugs:chicken:

Mine drops to crap every year.

Winter Blend Gas
Warm up times. (both comfort and engine)
Cold stiff bearing grease, gear and engine oil.
Cold air. It's denser and plowing a truck through it takes more gas. You may perceive some power gain with cooler air but it still takes more fuel to fire it.

Well I usually get my gas at wal-mart because i save .03 when using my wal-mart card. I decided to go back with valero with this last tank and I'm at 300 miles with a little less than a 1/4 of a tank left. Might have taking the tune up a couple of tanks to work or the walmart gas in the winter is really crappy. I'm betting it is probably the winter blend at walmart.

I try to stay away from wal-mart gas since its 10% ethanol. I mostly use Shell.

My 2000 Tahoe LT has 200,490 miles on her and runs like a champ. At 100,000 miles I did a full fuel system cleaning/replacing and went from 17 mpg to less than 14 mpg after the servicing. I can't figure it out and neither can anyone else? Outside of that, I have had no adjustments in fuel economy giving temp except when I drive from florida to kentucky, by the end of the trip it seems that my truck begins to get a little more efficient (~1.5 mpg)

It's a law in Florida I guess cause I know of only 2 gas stations left that sell pure gas without that alcohol sh@# in it. We are forced to put it in our outboards down here and boat motors hate it cause it soaks up any water it gets around.

check your compressor. Lots of folks (including me) noting that their a/c compressor is on all the time. Cant seem to find a reason yet. that will reduce mileage. (note: a/c and defrost and rear heat a/c all off)
