Has anyone added one of these to their Pioneer head unit, and if so where did you place the brain box and is it worth the price ($100)? I was thinking of placing it either in the glove box or under the front cup holders, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have three; one underneath the center console cup holder in my truck, one behind the glovebox in my CTS (and the 3rd I use in my garage). Nice sat tuner for the Pioneer units. Definitely worth the price if you don't care for all the repeat songs and commercials on fm/am radio. There is plenty of room behind the radio/hvac controls in the nnbs trucks to mount the tuner. You can also place it behind the glovebox or underneath the center console or front seats.

My first one came DOA, but as for my second, it's mounted behind the glove box where the stock XM box was. I just pulled out the stock tuner, took a mini-hacksaw and cut of the end of the stock plastic mounting bracket and with a little double-sided tape was able to get a really clean installation.

I used the factory antenna and there's power in the factory XM harness too.

I mounted mine under my second row bench, under the single seat on the passenger side. I mounted it there because I wanted the antenna in the rear of the truck in the center of the roof. The paper work said do not try and extend the antenna.

bryanfeelsgood,

If you dont mind me asking. Did you need any special adaptors to hook up the pioneer xm to the factory xm shark fin ant?

I am looking at doing the same thing myself, and wanted to know before I got everything ordered and dash ripped out.

thanks

Not really. The core part of the antenna plug is the same, but the outer plastic clip is different. I was able to pop off the plastic clip on the factory antenna and the antenna that ships with the 920xm and swap them. If you mess up the plastic clip you could probably just cut the plastic clip off altogether and use a piece of electrical tape to keep it in place.

Just make sure you don't damage any of the metal.

I decided to go ahead and grab one plus it was only $69.99 after a $30 rebate. I got it installed and working properly after some trial and error. I initially ran the 12v lead to an ACC 12v instead of a constant so every time I turned my truck off the XM box would reset and I would lose all presets and stations. Now I'm good to go and I got 12 months for $77. If they ask for a promo code use XMSCION03. Thanks for all of the comments!

How did the install turn out? I'm installing mine this weekend and wanted to know about pitfalls! Thanks.
